In other words, Trump wants to be able to have a jury that isn’t predisposed to thinking he’s guilty, and doesn’t vote based on how they feel about him personally (to the extent that that’s possible). You know, the way a jury is supposed to work.

Change-of-venue is requested when a defendant believes an objective jury cannot be empaneled in the original venue. The skin color of potential jurors is irrelevant; overwhelming publicity and the probability that the majority of the potential jury pool is prejudiced - e.g. >94% of DC voters voting against Trump in 2020 - would be relevant and valid causes for the venue to be changed.

If Trump is so vile and his crimes so great, does it really matter where he's tried?  Why not let him move the venue?  It shouldn't matter, right?

I don't think I was entirely clear.  Of COURSE any DC court is going to be prejudiced.  WE ALL know that.  Us and them.  But if they claim that court wouldn't be prejudicial, then what is the problem with moving it?
