Was the FBI correct in opening an investigation on Russia?
It was unfortunate that they intercepted a Russian government official talking with General Flynn, and he lied about it to the FBI. And that the Trump Campaign Chairman was a paid Russian operative and was sent to prison, but was later pardoned by Trump.
Then there was the "Russia, if you're listening" quote from Trump. And Roger Stone working with Wikileaks to get Hillary's emails released. Then the firing of the FBI Director, James Comey. And his successor, Andrew McCabe.
Then the discovery of a dozen or so Russians manipulating the computer voting systems in a few states.
My hunch was that there was enough to investigate.
However, when Barr appointed Durham, I had my doubts that there was enough evidence to investigate the FBI investigation?
Perhaps I am just biased?

Context matters, Part 1: The Flynn conversation was after the election.
Context matters, Part 2, Flynn was Trump’s foreign policy dude during the Transition, so talking to representatives of foreign countries was part of his job, and he probably talked to so many that he did not remember talking to a Russian dude.
My memory of Russian hacking activities is a bit different from kt’s. My memory is that some voting roles got intruders, NOT actual voting machines or vote count data.
What kt does not know or deceptively omitted was that Obama was briefed on at least one intel report that stated that the Russians knew HilLIARy’s Campaign was going to create a false narrative tying Trump to the Russians.

Let’s take an overlook at what the FBI did:
* The FBI opened their shamvestigation based on information they KNEW was false;
* The FBI got FISA warrants based on information and claims they KNEW were false;
* In one of the FISA warrant applications, an FBI operative falsified the text of an email in a material way, and plead guilty to having done so;
* The FBI spent millions, 10s of millions, or hundreds of millions of $$ and God knows how many (wo)man-hours on this shamvestigation, money and talent not investigating anything real;
* Mueller expended similar $$ and talent shamvestigating what he and the FBI knew was false.
Violating the law and proper process opening a shamvestigation did horrendous damage to society, law enforcement, and in real criminals not caught or caught later than they should have been.
How could that ever be justified, kt?!
