Just stumbled across a case of censorship at my local library.

I was referencing in another post here David Corn’s “American Psychosis” (excellent read, BTW, about the fringe elements of the GOP, going back to the Antebellum era), which I checked out of my library as a “New” book not a month ago. I wanted to recheck the title, so I got on my library’s website and did a search.

The book is no longer on the shelf. It’s gone. Disappeared. Never existed. It’s no longer in the catalog.

I accessed the minutes of the latest meeting of the board of trustees, to see if there was any discussion about book removals. There wasn’t, but there were nine agenda items about putting more Christian materials on the shelves, along with making other Christian-based stuff more accessible. This is a public library.

The board of trustees has been taken over by some extreme Right elements, but that has only just happened. They are certainly not wasting any time in purging “harmful” material, evidently.

Trust me, I am now following this closely, and I plan to (innocently) ask for an explanation as to just why Corn’s book is no longer available the next time I stop in. Which is often. It makes me wonder what else has just suddenly “disappeared.”

I think you stumbled across some Oxy pills in the library parking lot..... Cool story bro.

Anyone else catch the inconsistency in the :bouncy:? First AngryOldDem claims he checked the library's website, but then he claims the book is not on the shelf (meaning he was at the library). Not impossible, but an inconsistency that probably evidences that the :bouncy: is fiction.

Back in the 90s when I used the local county library more frequently, I found that conservative perspective books (e.g. Thomas Sowell) tended to have one of two statuses: missing/overdue (i.e. probably stolen); only located at branches around the periphery of the county.

One of your commie buddies lifted it.  Common property and all that.

It would be consistent with their other practices, what with the erasure of historic figures and such. Maybe the author of this American Psychosis wasn't far-left enough?

Well, you see, what happened was, I went into the library and turned the book around so that it's on the shelf backwards.........

I naturally assumed that the DUchebag DUmbass was talking about all of the Doctor Seuss books the freedom and First Amendment  loving left got banned from schools and public libraries. But I guess he was just lying about the outrage of the day from the democrat freedom hating party.

If anyone knows about psychosis having personally experienced it everyday of their life, it’s David Corn. Idiot is a total whack job.

Yeah.  I can almost feel the terrifying groundswell of pro-Corn outrage sweeping across the entire parking-lot.

1. Good for you to be on top of this. Threaten or alert someone to file a lawsuit against them,

to restore the former titles.

So easy for them to say, who's going to pay the pricey lawyers?  Someone else!

Black Skimmer suggests just asking the librarian behind the desk, what's up with the book.  But like all DUmmies, oldangrydem finds some excuse to not do the simple thing.  (Those threads are hilarious).

5. If you're on Twitter you should let Corn know

@DavidCornDC

13. Seems to me they may have broken the law if a book was removed without due process.

 :rotf:

Then Angryolddem got in way over his head, by embellishing his story with something about a secret database that I couldn't follow.  It all went to hell then.  There are ex-librarians on the thread who called him out on the nonsense.  Good stuff.

I'm old enough to recall the DUmmies celebrating hiding conservatives' books at stores, turning them all around, or moving the batch to a less prominent place. Most of those threads are lost without access to the good ol' CU archives.
