Seeking advice on water heaters

I recently had Roto-Rooter in to look at my 10-year-old 100 gallon gas water heater that stopped working. They could not light the pilot light and said it needs to be replaced for $5,000. I did not trust this at all. A second opinion priced them around the same, and saw similar prices at Home Depot. But I also saw cheaper prices for smaller water heaters. If I do have to replace it (and I can not - no money), do I really need a big 100 gallon water heater for my fairly small townhouse? It is like a townhouse since attached.

So, it seems like Mattiboi is trying to get back in the good graces and just ask some mundane questions. As opposed to all his recent beg-a-thons. A conversation starter if you will.

I think he's just sowing some more seeds for what we all now will be the eventual outcome. A fundraiser.

Up above he states he does not have the money to even replace the tank. So, other then the obvious incoming "dialing-for-dollars", what ever could he be up to? I think we all know.

Several morons try to help out for Mattiboi. Including that he needs to switch to tankless because its more "eco-friendly".

5. Thanks all

I do not know much about such things and these seem like good options. Appreciate it.

Well, they fell for Mattiboi's trap. They have laid out for him how much he needs to fundraise and they have no excuse to not donate now. Especially with helping Matt go "ecofriendly". Hook, line, and sinker. Well played Matt. Well played.

25. Isn't the house in foreclosure?

If it is, I’m not sure it’s useful to replace the hot water heater. You seem to be at the point where $20 helps with groceries for a week; not sure how you’d be able to afford a hot water heater. And if the house is in foreclosure, how can you even spend that money on an appliance vs spending the money to stay out of foreclosure?

25 posts before someone finally asked the obvious.  :-)

Why would you call roto rooter for a water heater?

If the pilot light won’t come on it seems likely the controller is bad..

7. Never buy a water heater from a plumber.

You are only creating a middle-man by doing this.

This guy is a real genius   :thatsright:

Telling him to go tankless they aren’t considering the cost of the additional electric work

Must live in a democrat leftist shithole. Here in Newscum's shithole water heater (40 gl) went from $225 to $700 in about 5 years. Bought one for my house and then one for a rental. Those are real numbers and soon we won't be able to buy gas water heaters. Which would mean rewiring both houses to deal with electric water heater.

The DUtards could not fix a short circuit with a dozen pairs of Dikes.  The best they could do is cut their peckers and clits off.

Similar situation here. My current home uses an Electric Water Heater, but seems to be doing ok. My rental property has a Gas Water Heater. Replaced it maybe 2 years ago? Dont recall. But it sure as hell wasnt $5K. I laughed out loud at that number. I want to say around $500?

We at one time considered a tankless for our current home. At the time though, they didnt seem reliable enough.

34. Most of us believe there is no non-working water heater.

Just read back on some of these threads.

Uh oh. Looks like the ever vigilant BlackSkinner, the DUmp antagonist, is already seeing thru it. Digging up the seeds that Mattiboi has already sown if you will.

What I find humorous, is the "most of us..." claim. I have only seen a couple posts that even seem to doubt MVDs claim. Unless the DUmp has some secret forum that MVD doesnt have access to, I have me doubts that the idiots dont believe him.

26. You can

get black 1" flexible hose and run it in a pattern on your roof into a holding tank when the need arises. The hose will soak up the heat from the sun and provide free hot water. There are youtube videos on how to do it.

I like it!  :lmao:

But I doubt Mattiboi is up to climbing up on his roof. He wont waddle across the street to WaWa for dinner for his elderly mother. I doubt he is going to scurry up a ladder.  :p

I could easily see some DUmRat up on s/h/its roof with a Saws-all or hole saw, destroying the watertight integrity of the roof beyond repair trying to make this method work for them. Mattie? Not a chance in hell. But some other DUm'Rat mouth breather trying to save a couple of bucks? Definitely.

100 gallon water heater?

That caught my eye too.  I wonder if his next GoFundMe will claim that he needs such a big heater because he and his Mom have taken in a dozen Ukrainian refugees.  And, even if he needed a 100 gallon heater, how does he justify $3000 to install it?

I'll personally sent Matt 100 bucks to buy the pipe as long as he takes a video of the install
