GOP bounce: McCain overtakes Obama

John McCain has overtaken Barack Obama in the Gallup daily tracking poll and has his highest level of support in that poll since early May.

McCain leads Obama 48 percent to 45 percent among registered voters, by Gallup’s measure. McCain has so far earned the same convention bounce as Obama, though at a more rapid pace.

Obama peaked at a 5-point convention bounce in polling published last Tuesday. He was ahead 49 percent to 43 percent in the Gallup poll conducted before the Republican convention. He then soared to 50 percent for the first time of the election, by Gallup’s measure, while McCain fell to 42 percent.

Tomorrows poll dump will be interesting, as will Tuesday and Wednesday. Then we will have a fairly clear idea on the height and durability of the bounce.

BTW, at this moment, RCP put's Obama's composite advantage spread at only .8 -- and that includes 'stale' poll data. Im also hoping for some fresh state polling as everything Ive seen is all outdated - taken before the GOP convention. If the state polls fall, the DUmmies will go into full-on meltdown.

Their whistling past the graveyard will become a full out brass band playing.  Polls?  No one believes in those polls!  Remember in 2004 when the polls said we won?

The only polls the DUmmy's believe in are the ones that they can fix. They wonder why they lose when the polling data says otherwise. :naughty:

Because of the way the polls are weighted, the only real 'safe' bet is a 15+ point lead for the Democrat. and even so, 15 points is close to the bottom. They always overstate Democrats in the polls, and make the assumption that the lions share of new voters are going Dem. With the energy Palin is generating the New voter demographic is going to be more messed up than ever.

It should be interesting to see just what the left is going to do if this bounce goes over 50%.

I can not wait to shove this in my moonbat coworkers face.

But....I will wait till McCain is over 50.

Correct me if I'm wrong..but wasn't GW behind in polls in 04?

I said this before and I'll say it again....I do not believe this will be a close election.  McCain will win..and he'll win big.

until I see other polls showing results like this, I will treat it as an outlier.
