Sometimes tax dollars go towards things you don't like. Tax dollars also pay for public defenders, who I'm sure are sometimes tasked with defending worse people than Trump (not exactly the same thing as in this case, but similar in concept).

That is one way of viewing it, and is correct. More specifically, the DOJ probably will pay for it. Iy would not be necessary, had the National Archives and DOJ bothered to work with Trump in good faith rather than use the negotiations to gin up a partisan fauxny issue. IOW, LIEden & Krew have hijacked taxpayer $$ to further LIEden's and the Dems' partisan interests.
