So the ol' codger of the island wants to know why people need more then 1 firearm. Thats it in a nutshell. Oh, and evidently only Right-wingers have guns. Or something like that. Its not really an important point. :naughty:

Some of them are also 2nd Amendment Fanatics.
A couple of weeks ago, one of them posted a photo of some new AR-15 clone or another that he had just acquired. It's one of several almost identical ones that he owns.
I asked him, "How many of those can you shoot at the same time?" Crickets.
For some, accumulating firearms is akin to hoarding. The answer to my question is: "Just one." And since you can shoot just one at a time, there is no use for owning several. They are all quite similar and work the same way. Having more than one is hopelessly redundant.
And that's why my relative didn't answer my question.
Very many people who own such military-style rifles own multiple ones. However, they still can only fire one of them at a time. It's incredibly stupid - like owning a huge 4WD pickup you never drive off the asphalt, and that has a rigid cover over the bed that never gets opened. There is no point to either thing.
You see, lurking DUmp mutts, its quite simple. Its called FREEDOM! More importantly, is it any of your damn business? We dont question how many bongs or crack pipes YOU own. :stoner:

2. If they are all loaded, they are threat multipliers
The lack of reload time should be considered when determining whether or not they are stable enough to own such arsenals.
People who own large collections are not the problem. No one is going to take their classic Mosin out and hunt people. Get real.

3. K&R, I can understand shotguns for sport shooting but not PGRs (pistol grip rifles) !!!
You are just a moron.

9. Well, depends what sort of "sport" shooting you're doing, really.
Still, you would have no real need for multiple weapons.
Still hung up on that? Since a minute ago, its still none of your concern.

5. Well, I'm no fan of guns, but ...
The base models may be nearly identical, but people kit them out differently, using different attachments (scope vs. laser sight, that type of thing).
Different brands may have different compatible attachments, different weight/balances, different feel when shooting, different ranges, differing accuracy levels, etc. Even when their looks/style are outwardly very similar.
One could make the same argument about, say, acoustic guitars. If you own one, well, that's enough, you can play guitar. But many, many people who own 1 acoustic guitar ... own other ones, often, many other ones.
Why? Cause they don't sound the same, feel the same, play the same, etc. Also, people get more money and decide to upgrade from the cheap one they bought years ago, or inherited, or whatever ... to something nicer.
If you buy legitimately identical guns that seems silly, but I can think of reasons one might. Maybe it's your absolute favorite and you see it's on closeout so you buy a spare in case the first gets lost or stolen, that type of thing.
Well now. A mutt who is trying to explain something with common sense. How refreshing. :p

12. Hmm...that sounds like a good excuse, rather than a reason.
:blah: :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah:
Ill spare you, but Rockhead goes on to explain the complexities of owning an Oboe. And an English Horn that he didnt like. :???:
It goes on with a few more posters, that like above, post some reasonable answers. But no. Thats not good enough for Rockhead who refuses to concede. Imagine that.
MineralMan (144,144 posts)
32. Well, it's more a symptom of something than an illness itself.
Looking at my own relatives who are gun nuts, it all makes sense, based on other things about them.
I own a couple of firearms myself, but I can't remember the last time I fired one. I know that stuff, but don't have whatever disorder it is that turns people into fanatics. Not at all.
I have one nephew in law, though, who is a gun porn addict. I recently unfriended him on Facebook for insulting my wife in a reply to one of her posts after the Uvalde shooting. Before I did that, though, I told him why I was doing it. He had apparently forgotten that she uses her birth name, rather than my last name. He offered a lame excuse as an apology. Not accepted. You simply don't get to call her an "idiot." Nope.
Oh, you are a fanatic. Of a different caliber..
So, I have a question for you, Rockhead. Why do YOU own multiple firearms? If you can only fire one at a time? And, you have repeatedly said that gun owners should have to take classes, etc. You admit you have no idea when the last time you fired said firearms. So your proficiency is surely lacking. Sounds like you need to surrender all firearms. Take a safety class, and visit the Government Dr. to be tested for senility, since you cant remember the last time your shot a weapon. :naughty:

They keep using that term, "military-style", as if it were in any way meaningful.
The thing is, "style" never killed anybody.

Idiot.

These dimwits would have been the same idiots who would have complained centuries ago that someone had more than one of the same sword. Difference is back then someone would have been socially responsible enough to run them through with it.

Hey DUmbass DUmmy moronman, I have shot two real military rifles at the same time. The weapon was the M-16. So suck a DUmp out of my asshole.

My oldest son(14)and oldest daughter(12)both have heritage .22 6 shooters. Everything is identical aside from minor cosmetic stuff (finish, grips, cylinder, etc). We dont need both in the same house and they can't shoot at the targets at the same time due to learned gun safety and watching what the other is doing. They are both excellent shots and are that way due to ownership.
Btw... there is a 1938 mosin floating around that wouldn't hesitate to go human hunting again. I'm fairly confident it was used in anger in europe

Picked my 1942-issue Nagant up for a song ~25 years ago because the previous owner(s) thought the 26 tick marks in the stock degraded its value. :naughty:

Putting it very simply: The number of guns, the types, and the reasons I own as many and those types are my business. Period. Full Stop.

The events alleged by the DUmmy never happened.

Always wanted to add a Mosin to my collection. Would be a fine addition.

Well Rockhead; I guess it's a good thing the Founding Fathers did not - in an uncharacteristic fit of shortsightedness - call it the Bill of Needs, eh?
:whatever:

A friend of mine came down in the spring, he's not anti-gun, but not overly enthralled with them. We let him take a few pot shots with the glenfield, nothing overly traumatic. He shot a full clip (cause mosins actually have those) and he turns around grinning. We were recording the whole thing. The only thing he didn't like was my saying he looked like a real Russian soldier, lol.

The reasons I may or may have not purchased a Mosin to my no at the bottom of several lakes collections was:
1. The price was super reasonable approx $100.
2. It was NOS and I had to take the cosomolene off myself, a pain in the ass.
3. The bayonet had matching numbers to the rifle.
4. At the time you could buy 880 round surplus commie 54R ammo for 880 rounds under $100 (too bad I lost all of that in several canoe accidents) and yes it is corrosive but CLEAN AFTER SHOOTING.
5. Military history as mine is over100 years old.
6. 54R is powerful and will mess your shoulder u.... but nothing like what you are aiming at.
7. 400 yards is no problem if you mess with the fixed sights.

I remember when a local Pawn Shop had em' for about that price. They had an overflowing pile. But lordy, I didnt relish the cleaning project that would ensue. Still wish I would have bought one. Oh well.

I've been wanting a schmidt-rubin. They used to be about as plentiful and cheap as the mosins at one point from what I understand. The straight back pull is fascinating to me. Longest target shot in history with iron sites as well

OK, I'm a bit slow ...
Does MM realize that he collects the original murder weapon and military-grade weapon? :rotf:

Here is what MM isn’t telling you;
He owns not one but TWO automobiles. Neither her nor his wife work. He has stated he owns these mass murder items because he uses one for one thing and one for another thing. He’s mentioned it several times. Proudly!
I see no reason MM NEEDS to own 2 inanimate objects that have been used countless times to more down dozens and dozens of people! Why should we not simply assume he’s holding one just to commit mass murder?
No, one vehicle is enough for people like him. He and his wife either ride together or he’s going alone. One is all they need. I don’t give a damn about what he wants, owning two when you only need one is stupid. He should be forced to sell one. Or give it to someone who has need.

Idiot.
To be fair, if the DUmmies were allowed to run the economy then pretty soon everybody apart from the inner party would only be able to afford one pair of shoes.
