Philly stands alone on mask mandate
https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/3270200-philly-stands-alone-on-mask-mandate/

"As the pandemic drags on into its third year, elected officials and health experts are wary of trying to reimpose restrictions that Americans are openly fed up with.

According to David Dowdy, epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the current COVID-19 numbers aren’t enough to warrant a change in policy.

“Each city should be looking at their own numbers. But in general, I think that the numbers justify a strategy of, you know, maintaining the status quo and seeing where things go. Cases are going up, but severe cases aren’t going up so much that I think it merits dramatic action,” Dowdy said.

He noted that the rates of hospitalizations and severe coronavirus cases have both remained low in comparison to cases overall."

Now that COVID has become just another variant of the Common Cold, DUmmies have a sad. (https://www.democraticunderground.com/100216604466)

1. God forbid they get ahead of the curve

They want the hospitals full before they would consider mask mandates.

Read the news, asshole, fewer people than ever are hospitalized with COVID.

Yeah, it's just like in 1943. Americans then were tired of blackout curtains, gas rationing, the draft, Victory Gardens and all that other "win the war" bullshit.

I mean Jesus, two years already! Pearl Harbor was so old news! Were the Germans anywhere near Iowa? Were there Japanese warships in San Francisco Bay? And how could anybody take the "threat" from Italy seriously?

Nope, we all had decided enough was enough! Freedom from tyranny! Think of the psychological suffering endured by our children being urged to collect scrap metal for the "war effort!" I mean, how would they ever recover?

Clearly, the worst days were behind us. It was time to get back to normal!

That is, after all, the American way. Namely: there is no problem, no crisis so big or threatening that it can't be ignored.

Forget the eagle as our national bird. I say we change that to the ostrich.

Can anyone decipher this, please?

I'll go with the opinion of medical experts.

The latte/limo liberal actually makes a point. Of course:

4. So we wait until the hospitals are full, then act?

Hospitalizations are not a good indicator for masking as it is a lagging indicator. The general idea with the masking is to get out in front of the curve, not try and play catch up.

I thought you assholes were all about the "science." Let's go back to the article:

Yeah, that poster is comparing COVID to being in WWII. Like most analogies on DU, it fails. Unlike NAZI Germany and imperial Japan, COVID is not an enemy that will continue to kill everything in its path until something stops it. And the measures mentioned were necessary because of the need to rebuild our military.

Looking at the usual data source, https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ , the deaths:cases ratio fell drastically in summer-fall 2021, and has not justified tight restrictions since that time. This ratio, which shows very significantly declining severity of cases was especially dramatic during the winter 2021-22 surge, as compared to the surge a year earlier. And speaking of the winter 2021-22 surge, new cases started plummeting (a carefully chosen word, not hyperbole) in the last week of January 2022, and deaths started plummeting in the first week of February. the New Cases graph has been flat since the beginning of March, while deaths are still declining significantly. Last report I saw (a week or two ago) had the % of hospital patients who had Covid well under 10%.

Conversely, the Shut it all down, man policies DU-grade Proggies want are, ummmmmmm, working poorly in Shanghai.

We basically altered the way the entire world works, and did untold damage to the children of the world, for a novel variant of the common cold.

Not only that, but now a federal judge has struck down mask mandates in airports and airplanes saying the CDC doesn't have the stroke to implement them.

The DUmmies are mourning the loss of their masks.  Or let me rephrase; they're mourning the fact they can't force others to mask.

Just like the electrolytes that plants crave?

That's a high five for the Idiocracy reference.

Why the DUmmies celebrate that movie is beyond me... they are the ones that will lead the US to that kind of decline...

Oh wait...
They're too dumb to get that. Now it makes sense.

No one in Iowa was using blackout curtains, you dumb bitch. People in coastal areas were still under threat as subs were still sinking ships in 1943. As for gas rationing and victory gardens, well, if you wanted to drive and eat, you rationed or grew your own. It really isn't that hard. I remember when WWII was "the good war" to you idiots. Then, when you were protesting Iraq, Afghanistan was "the good war". You ****ers literally have no conviction.
