We watched "To Kill A Mockingbird" on TCM the other night.
We’ve seen it several times, but it’s such a good movie I always watch it over again whenever it comes on.
My 29-year old son reminded me that he watched the movie in school in 8th grade after his class read the book.
I suppose in today’s Republican dominated world of what is considered taboo to teach in school nowadays, this book and movie will be banned.
My mom used to encourage me to read when I was young and school was out in the summertime. It was a treat for me when she took me and my sister downtown to the huge old red brick Public Library with the gazillion steps you had to climb to go through the front door. (If you were somehow physically disabled I have no idea how you entered the place). Engraved in the stone over the door were the words PVBLIC LIBRARY. I remember thinking to myself that someone sure didn’t know how to spell!
My mom would give me double allowance at the end of the summer if I read two books per month of summer vacation and she was satisfied after quizzing me that I had indeed read the whole book. (An easy task for me). I was allowed to choose any books I wanted.
Just some random thoughts from a child of the sixties ….
Isn't it the LEFT wing that wants to ban this one? Amazingly, none of the DUpipo mentions that little factoid.

I remember watching Gone with the wind on TCM until the socialists banned it along with the Dr. Seuss cartoons.

Why yes, the left does indeed want to ban such materials. An inconvenient fact, so it must not be mentioned.

1. That was one of many books we used in homeschooling our kids. My wife and I are both registered "R". Stereotype fail.
2. To Kill A Mockingbird has been banned in some California public schools, https://www.newsweek.com/kill-mockingbird-other-books-banned-california-schools-over-racism-concerns-1547241 :
Middle and high school English teachers in the Burbank Unified School District received the news during a virtual meeting on September 9.
Until further notice, teachers in the area will not be able to include on their curriculum Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, Theodore Taylor's The Cay and Mildred D. Taylor's Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.
Four parents, three of whom are Black, challenged the classic novels for alleged potential harm to the district's roughly 400 Black students.
Stereotype double-fail.

16. It's not just your opinion. One of the main reasons it isn't taught as much in English class.
It was groundbreaking for it's time. Kids don't see that today since we have made a lot of ground since.
Huh? It was 'groundbreaking' because it's an adult story narrated by a kid.
And teachers are morons for jamming it into a History-curriculum instead of English.

They had us watch Gone With The Wind and The Sound Of Music at assembly in junior high school.

Yes indeed!
Leftists have consistently sought to have it banned on the grounds that some characters in it say the "N"-word.
They've also sought to have 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' banned for the same reason.

DUmbass DUchebags aren't very good at this are they?

Their chosen party of the Democrats is actually quite clever in marketing and deception, and admittedly better than conservatives. Coining the Florida Parental Rights Bill the "Don't Say Gay" bill has been effective from a PR perspective although it is a complete smear job and lie.
Now when it comes to lib-tard boycotts, they're completely ineffective. See Chic-Fil-A, Hobby Lobby, Goya Foods, et al. And last I looked, Mike Lindell isn't sleeping in his nuclear bunker on MyPillows.

I believe it was done in a few individual school districts, but posting on DU the NewSpeak link posted by somebody earlier in this thread might risk a pizza delivery event.

The Carol Burnett show did a Cliff Notes version that pretty well covers it.
