Staying up late smoking dope and watching I Love Lucy re-runs and playing x-box tells the tale, DUmmie.
I suppose some people will never be able to understand the satisfying feeling of a full day of positive productivity... they call them DUmmies. Besides, ssi doesn't make you clock in.

Why is getting up early seen as such a virtue.
My body tells me to stay up later and wake up later. I will get the same work done, as I work the same hours no matter when I wake. I will just be less tired or crabby. Probably more efficient. What is virtuous about going against your natural rhythm?

15. I bet if we did a survey
we would not find that to be true.
Also it was probably first said by an arrogant early riser.

2. You are right. I think it was Bette Davis who, when asked what she ate for breakfast...
answered "A cup of coffee at 2 in the afternoon."
ahh yes, Betty Davis, one of the worlds most profound contributors to the advancement of society.
I suppose that's who we should model our own behaviors after

7. I get up late and I take a nap in the afternoon

8. Because you can make the early morning breakfast meetings where some of the most
corrupt good ole boys meet to talk about ways to abuse their power.
At least, that's the way it was in the nineties and the ten years that followed.
eh?

10. Im a weird situation than
I go to bed about 2:30,3 am and I wake up at 6:30 -7am.
I just don't need much sleep been that way all my life.
If I go over 6 hours I feel crappy all day.
Sometimes I have insomnia and go to bed at 5am and still automatically get up at 7.
I dont feel tired during the day.
So what am I early bird or night owl?

14. Yeah -- I am real sick of that shit
As a night owl, who cares what hours you choose to sleep vs. what hours you choose to be awake?
I could care less if Ned Flanders next door wants to get up at 5am to read his devotionals and pretend he's one of the 'good people' -- I will be going to bed at 3am and getting up at noon, thanks...
damn those Bible thumpers! ... or something?

Just a welfare recipient who gets up at 11 O'Clock.

What makes you think anybody is impressed by the fact that no matter when you get up, you work 0 HOURS???

Getting up early is associated with productivity and discipline, both of which are generally unknown to those of the DUmmy persuasion. This threatens them and makes them feel inadequate and intimidated, so they lash out.
Case closed. Next case.

Because being a lazy piece of shit who lays in bed while everyone else is busting their asses should never be seen as a virtue.

No wonder these DUmmies want to ban gas powered lawnmowers and leaf blowers. :whatever:

In an era when most people worked outdoors and lighting was expensive, getting up early so as to begin working at first light (and, in summer, the temps were less hot) was wise. Factories and relatively inexpensive lighting has changed that some, but I'd bet many contractors hit the road just before sun-up to take advantage of early sunlight and, in summer and warmer climes, cooler weather. The same is true of farmers, who intrinsically have to work outside, including those whose livestock have daily schedules tied to sun rise and set.
It tells one a lot about this DUmmie's experience and understanding of the working world that (s)he doesn't understand this.
I thought I'd be fair to DU-folk and see whether anyone pointed out the above, which I think is grossly obvious. The 13 Reply did, https://www.democraticunderground.com/100216505203#post13 , though it is presented as a thing of the past. The 33rd Reply also denigrated the habit as something antiquated. Obviously their understand of how their housing got built is lacking, and they must think food comes from Piggly Wiggly and Whole BennieCheck.

As a kid I was going to 'take revenge' and get-up later than 6am and go to bed later than 9pm.
Decades later, I get-up at 6-ish and go to bed around 9-ish.

Sounds exactly like myself. "Had" to stay up to watch my alma mater twice in the past three days until damn near midnight. And I've discovered at my age that I no longer need an alarm clock, I just wake up.
Most of my productivity comes from 6 am to noon. Perhaps a DUmmy might try that rather than just suckling on the government teat.

99. With me, it's not a virtue, but rather a necessity
If I have things that have to be done in Paris or Barcelona before noon, much as I would LIKE to stay in bed until noon, it just doesn’t jive with my work schedule. Air France and Iberia refuse, for some reason, to fly when I want them to, and instead insist on flying when THEY want to. Most inconsiderate of them, I think, but they refuse to budge.

If he was, any DUmmies who have done it could chime in that flying for business travel is over-rated (I did some when I was a tech support engineer, nothing glamorous, just trying to make customers happy) ... probably not many have done it, given many DUmmies' lifestyle of living off social programs and entry-level-job-hopping.

To be fair, I'm sure that most DUmmies are just as productive between 6am and noon as between noon and 6pm...i.e., not at all.

indeed.
I've been in so many places across this country, most dozens of times and even international. for fun, i saved all of my boarding passes, and i have hundreds of them. and I've been to some really neat places with beautiful attractions and beaches, etc... but travelling for work sucks. you may as well be in your own town. when I went to these remote places, it was to work. I rarely ever saw daylight, let alone the local attractions or anything. i did on rare occasion of course, but that normally only happened if i finished up early and couldn't get a flight change.
all I can say is that a guy can really learn to appreciate cooking a box of cheap mac-n-cheese at home. steak and lobster sounds nice, but it gets really old after a while.
