Putin May Be on His Way to Defeating Himself
He's a tyrannical head of state. No question. But even a tyrant needs loyal followers.
One of the reasons people follow tyrants is personal gain. If you're buddies with the boss, you get first pick - well...second pick...of opportunities that emerge. That's how oligarchs become oligarchs. Once you're an oligarch, you could get very used to your privileges and wealth. It's nice to be rich and powerful.
Now, suppose your leader suddenly pulls the rug out from under you. He does something that makes your wealth almost disappear. He gets your bank locked out of doing business. Your holdings in the tyrant's currency are suddenly worth next to nothing. Your international holdings get locked up by other countries, or even seized and liqudated.
When that happens, oligarchs tend to become unhappy. "WTF?" they ask.
If enough of your followers lose faith in you, and your venture or little war is going poorly, you're not leading from strength, and you can't lead from weakness. Not only that, if your currency is worthless, you can't make deals, and neither can your toadies.
Hmm...maybe Putin has taken a bigger bite than he can swallow. Maybe he's going to have to try to walk it back while saving face. Who knows. But, it's a lot of people who are getting less and less enamored of Putin every day. There is, or could be, a point of no return.

BLAH BLAH BLAH

I agree, BLAH BLAH BLAH, but I am really surprised that rockhead didn't try to interweave Trump into that babble...

Just when you think teh stupid over there cannot get worse.
I have been doing a LOT of real, objective research on this since this whole shebang began and I assure the DUmmie that Putin CANNOT REVERSE COURSE.
Putin's supporters see the same things as he: a NATO Ukraine will be a clear, present and ongoing danger to Russia. The economic windfall from the oil pipelines to Europe from Russia which Ukraine is charging EXORBATANT fees for ALONE will pay for the cost of full scale invasion in short order. As for EU/NATO sanctions, consider this: Germany gets 35% of its oil and 50% of its natural gas from Russia. If it pushes too hard, Russia takes the economic hit and shuts the pumps off. Germany cannot afford that so all the rest of this stuff is just window dressing.

Its only been six days.
It really hasn't gotten going yet.

Putin is only using a fraction of his strength. If things get tough, he will use overwhelming strength and crush Ukraine.

These things above are all true. Nobody hates commies and dictators like conservatives do, however there are nuts who think pointing out the obvious when it comes to clearly stating things from a military standpoint is somehow supporting Russia. That’s how upside down things have become.
Russia will take Ukraine and likely Moldova. Beyond that, I’m sure Putin would like to take more, but I do believe NATO commitments will kick in and I’m not sure he wants to take that on.

george should check recent history - this is not Putin's first land grab, and he has invaded this same country before. He does not care about the consequences or popular opinion.
