I'm back after years in hiatus, but it seems DU posts are extremely small these days in threaded content. I used to click on a link and it would be 3 pages deep. I know where they are, on News sites on FB with me trashing the shit out of them, but it would appear DU is dying.

They're definitely aging. Young people aren't going to frequent message boards, they'd rather instagram, reddit, or tik-tok. I'd say the average age of DUers is one foot in the grave.

They don't fare well without a Republican POTUS, since their number one driving force is hate. The 1/6 "investigation" is keeping them on life support, but if Trump were to leave the scene completely they'd be left with nothing but discussions of the various psychotropic meds they're on.

The median age of frequent posters there has got to be about 55-60.

I figure it's more like 70. It'd be a more lively place if they wouldn't ban everybody.

They couldn't have a Dim'Rat utopia if the they couldn't adequately punish purveyors of WrongThink.

70? I would almost feel young, :rotf: ! DU's PUMA and Bern Purges and habit of banning members who stray off the Dem Plantation into somewhere near reality have probably banned as many members as are currently active and are not moles.
DU-threads with >>100 Replies do seem to be much less common of late. Discussion forums haven't been to young people's tastes for quite some time, but I think as people get past their 20s and maybe early 30s, I think they start seeing value in discussion that goes beyond virtue-statements and insults.

And I much prefer these type of message boards to other social media. While I use Facebook occasionally, clearly Twitter is mostly a cesspool and I've never been on Instagram or TikTok. That crap isn't worth my time. The format here and even at the DUmp are a lot cleaner with individual discussion threads on various topics.

That may explain why there's not a lot of 'Just Got A Phonecall...If I Disappear For A While, Watch The Nightly News From Ukraine' posts.

I've stayed off Twitter, and it does seem to have devolved into a cesspool of stupidity and insults. Its character-count-limited format is almost incompatible with discussion, where details often matter. I use FB, but mainly for keeping touch with friends and the running community. It's threading sucks for anything like actual detailed discussion.
