DSA reaffirms our call for the US to withdraw from NATO
The Democratic Socialists of America condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and demands immediate diplomacy and de-escalation to resolve this crisis. We stand in solidarity with the working classes of Ukraine and Russia who will undoubtedly bear the brunt of this war, and with antiwar protestors in both countries and around the world who are calling for a diplomatic resolution.
This extreme and asymmetrical escalation is an illegal act under the United Nations Charter and severely threatens the livelihoods and well-being of working-class peoples in Ukraine, Russia, and across the region. We urge an immediate ceasefire and the total withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine.
There is no solution through war or further intervention. This crisis requires an immediate international antiwar response demanding de-escalation, international cooperation, and opposition to unilateral coercive measures, militarization, and other forms of economic and military brinkmanship that will only exacerbate the human toll of this conflict.
DSA reaffirms our call for the US to withdraw from NATO and to end the imperialist expansionism that set the stage for this conflict. We call on antiwar activists in the US and across the world to oppose violent escalations, demand a lasting diplomatic solution, and stress the crucial need to accept any and all refugees resulting from this crisis. Much of the next ten years are coming into view through this attack. While the failures of neoliberal order are clear to everyone, the ruling class is trying to build a new world, through a dystopic transition grounded in militarism, imperialism, and war. Socialists have a duty to build an alternative.

While I understand the anti-war sentiment, weakening NATO by withdrawing from it will not win the support of the majority of Americans.

Excellent point!!
I’m still trying to soak in how many of them want to get into a military conflict with Russia. They are sitting on pins and needles hoping that a NATO country is breached so the US can send in troops.

No, Trump did not "praise" Putin, he accurately pointed out that Putin played Brandon like a worn out drum head.
No, Trump did not "bash" NATO, he pointed out their feckless defense policies that left their militaries gutted, which he also did when he was President.
Brandon and NATO could have helped Ukraine be its only real defense against Russian aggression, too costly to be worth invading. Brandon wouldn't, NATO couldn't, and Putin knew it.

Yeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh ... not going to happen for many/most Americans, the conditional silence nor the geographic learning. Sadly.
I knew, decades ago, but because two of my grandparents were Volga Germans. My Dad's older sister was born in Czarist Russia. During the failed 1905-1906 revolution they saw what was coming and came to the US. So I was curious about where they came from.

I can't say that I disagree with the USA leaving NATO. NATO has been a slush fund for europe and a huge drain on the USA's resources. NATO has been unnecessary since the mid 90s. With the exception of the newest eastern European countries it is only a US taxpayer sink hole that transfers wealth to countries that can't field a brigade to a battle field.

Have a few stock options if I can't think of an amusing "picture" round for my weekly trivia gig. And several are maps, and one would be amazed at the knowledge or lack thereof on the general public on geography. I just always assume (correctly according to mathematics) that half of the population are dumber than average.

Much as I wish it were not accurate, I have a pretty low estimation of most Americans' knowledge of History and Geography (I'm not saying I'm particularly impressed with my own). But when you think about it, how many ordinary American people need to know about Stalin's Gulags or the Holodomor or where Xi'an is located in China or what kind of monster King Leopold II of Belgium was?
