Why is nothing being done about making the District of Columbia a State?
This seems like a slam dunk for us that would draw more attention to Republican voter denial.

1. Because there aren't enough votes in the Senate.
AND... done in one.

2. Senate and House Republicans OPPOSE adding more Democrats to the Senate/House ranks.
The same attitude regarding Puerto Rico.

5. The other option to get the voters there representation
Is to make the non-federal government areas part of either Virginia or Maryland, that would solve the problem of them not having voting representation in Congress.

8. The real reason is because the black population is too high.
It DC were lily white and Republican it would have been a state decades ago.

Yes, republicans don't want democrats padding their representation in congress. How dare they?!
Well, there is also the matter of DC Statehood being illegal, and how it was never meant to be a state, but that never stopped democrats.

It DC were lily white and Republican it would have been a state decades ago.
And if it were predominantly republican, democrats would be arguing that even raising the question of making DC a state was treason.

Such big priorities for America. :whatever: :whatever: :whatever:

I think it would take an amendment to the constitution to legally make DC a state.

I think it would take an amendment to the constitution to legally make DC a state.
Considering that the District of Columbia's statehood status is mandated by the Constitution, nothing less than an amendment is capable of altering that state of affairs.

Says the party flooding our borders with illegals. As for why D.C. can't be made a state, it's right in the title. DISTRICT, ya ****ing morons. It was supposed to be a set aside area away from states where the three branches would locate to govern the rest of the nation without interference. If D.C. were to become a state they would have WAY more power than the rest of the states since most politicians live there and will vote in their own, immediate interests.
Damn you DUmbasses are dumbasses. As for PR, there's no reason they can't be a state, other than the fact they don't WANT to be a state.

Why should it become a state? Besides the (D)esire for more seats in Congress, what purpose does making DC a state serve? Answer that, and we will get back to you.

They would argue the people living there need tto have representation, but in that case, why not make the populated areas part of the surrounding states? I don't believe DC was ever intended to have so many people permanently residing in it.
