San Francisco voters overwhelmingly chose to recall three school board members on Tuesday, expressing public frustration at prolonged school lockdowns and ideological obsessions.

Early results on Tuesday evening showed the recall leading by three-to-one margins in each race, and the result was later confirmed, dealing a swift verdict on “woke” ideology, left-wing coronavirus policies, and the intransigence of teachers’ unions about reopening schools during the pandemic.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) board member Alison Collins was recalled with 79% of the vote; Gabriela López was recalled with 75% of the vote; and Faauuga Molina was recalled with 72% of the vote.

A surprise recall in leftist San Francisco.

I don't know how surprising it was, actually, other than that the votes to recall each board member were as overwhelming as they were (all >70% to recall). As the Youngkin victory indicated, harming Libs' children is a good way to get rejected by many Libs. Keeping schools shut down, jamming racist CRT crap down students' throats, and wasting $$ on renaming schools and trying to obliterate a historical mural all were factors. One of the board members, years ago, also basically derided Asians as acting white to get ahead (in a city whose Chinatown dates to the Gold Rush!).

Quoting from https://reason.com/2022/02/16/san-francisco-voters-fire-3-school-board-members/ , at the bottom of the article, one of the recall effort's leaders commented:

Quote
"I've always thought of myself as progressive, but I don't use that label anymore to describe myself," Raj told me Monday. "Because when I see the people who call themselves progressive, and I especially see the elected leaders calling themselves progressive, they don't seem to stand for any of the values that I believe what progressive should be. It is not progressive to stand back and do nothing while the most underprivileged kids in our city have struggled and suffered the most….It is not progressive to put your own political career above the interest of the people you're supposed to serve. That is not progressive. All that I can see is that the movement that perhaps started with a lot of idealists in the '60s and the '70s and '80s, is now filled with opportunists who only care about using progressive language to advance their careers, but have no interest, no desire, to actually solve the real problems that our kids are facing today."

Not a conservative, but getting unwoke. And recognizing the bad results of other Prog policies may now be possible.

And a certain former SF DA ... not the one I hope has to move out of the US Naval Observatory in January 2025.
