ABC should rescind Whoopi Goldberg's suspension.
I think the suspension is unnecessary and excessive. Whoopi is not anti-semitic. She made a mistake because of a lack of knowledge.
I think she sincerely was misinformed about the issue of race and Jews throughout history. The facts are this: It was not until post World War II that Jews were universally identified as white. If one were to look at their grandparents and great-parents immigration papers from the early 20th Century, they would find that their race was listed as Hebrew. That is how the world looked before the Holocaust. Whoopi's mistake was defining race through 21st century standards rather than through the standards of Nazi Germany. Jews were identified by the nazis as untermensch, subhuman. Not just a different race, but an inferior race.
Instead of suspending her, ABC would have chosen better by requesting the president of the ADL to give Whoopi a private tour of the Holocaust Museum. It could have been opportunity for people to learn something.
She's not racist. She's just stupid.

1. Whoppi made an ignorant racist comment & is paying the price.
Good. People should not be spouting off as experts about things which they know nothing and never gave one damn about or they would have known it be begin with. Her bad. Hopefully she has learned from it because I dont think she's a bad person.

2. If she were Republican, would you be making this ask?
If this were a Fox News host saying these things, would the attitude be, "You know, we shouldn't sanction them for this. I'm sure a field trip would be sufficient."
Because I really don't think that would be the case.

4. I believe in paying attention to context.
She was not speaking from malice. And yes, I would apply that standard to anyone.

5. This really boils down to, "Well, she's on our side."
Excusing and advocating for lesser punishments on this basis isn't great.
Although, at least you're not engaged in the weird Holocaust denial I'm seeing in other threads in service of defending someone on the same team. So kudos on that.
Because this all devolved into yikes territory rather rapidly. Like, I'm reading posts that would find comfortable homes in white supremacists spaces.
So this Whoopi thing got that going for us.

6. She made a statement that was factually incorrect. Big deal.
No one was harmed nor did she intend any.
Error caused by ignorance is not worth a suspension.

9. Intent does matter
Whoopie is both right and wrong.
The Germans identified Jews as a separate race, but most people did not. The US Census forms did not include Jews as a race.
And the Nazis also killed gypsies, the mentally ill and the handicapped of all races.

Speaking personally, I'm divided on this. On one hand, I think Prog-Cancelers are so entrenched through their successes that they can only be overcome by use of their own weapons. On the other hand, Bozoid Lifeforms such as inhabit "The View" are so in their Prog-Bubble that they speak aloud things that smarter Progs know to say only in private. On that level, running-at-the-mouth Proggies are actually useful for showing what they and their ideas actually are.
Re whoops:
* She's old enough to have learned, probably in school, that race was Hitler's obsession and that he hated Jews on a racial basis;
* She's trying to buy into and regurgitate Progs' relatively new claim that only whites can be racist, and only against POC;
* She's doing political-social commentary with the mouth control of the stand-up comedian she actually is.

I'm not divided at all.
The Left has weaponized "cancel culture" in an attempt to destroy anyone who speaks out against the preferred narrative. They're currently trying to oust Ilya Shaipro at Georgetown over a tweet.
I say burn the whole thing down and sow the ruins with salt.

So who is Symphthisical that he/she/it gets away with bringing up rational points? I've noticed this DUpipo before, particularly in threads about Rittenhouse. He often seemed unusually sane for DU.

So did roseanne barr.

Oh look, some on the left don't like it when the standard they created is applied to them.

Libs eating their own and/or defending them only because they sing from the party sheet music is hilarious entertainment.

Now Whoopi should change her name back to what it was before she stole a Jewish name to get parts in Pervywood.
In my mind a fake Jew lying about the Holocaust should ay a big price.

CNN’s Don Lemon defends Whoopi Goldberg in Holocaust comment fallout: ‘We have to be allies’
Lemon suggests Goldberg's lack of antisemitism, 'sincere' apologies should excuse her behavior
Whoopi Goldberg is being held accountable for her Holocaust remarks after being suspended from her post at "The View," but CNN’s Don Lemon argues she should be shown some mercy as an ally.
The "Don Lemon Tonight" anchor proposed that those on the left must continue an alliance with one another even if there’s been internal wrongdoing.
"In this environment, we have to be allies to each other," he said. "Sometimes your allies say stupid things. Sometimes they say dumb things. But guess what? They’re your allies. They’re at least on your side and they’re trying to learn."
"We have to stop trying to cancel people and shouting down our allies," Lemon added.
