Title: Obama (Secretly) Met With Fox News Executives
Post by: Wretched Excess on September 03, 2008, 08:24:50 AM

this is apparently when obama agreed to appear on the o'reilly show.  I wonder if fox promised a
cream-puff interview.  o'reilly was unusually deferential to hillary when he interviewed her . . . .

but at least he isn't afraid of foxnews anymore.  I noticed that he had to have preconditions
before he would talk to o'reilly, which he has said he wouldn't require before he spoke with
iwannadinnerjacket or hugo chavez.

Obama Met With Fox News Executives

ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 2 -- At a secret meeting with Barack Obama three months ago, Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes says, he tried to clear the air with the Democratic senator by saying that his organization was determined to be fair but would not be "in the tank" for Obama's campaign.

During the sit-down in a Waldorf-Astoria hotel suite in Manhattan that included Rupert Murdoch, the network's owner, Obama expressed concern about the way Fox was covering him. "I just wanted to know if I'm going to get a fair shake from Fox News Channel," Ailes recalled him saying.

"Senator, you're the one who boycotted us," Ailes says he replied. "We're not the ones who boycotted you. Nor did we retaliate for your boycott."

The meeting appears to have eased tensions between the two camps, which began when all the Democratic candidates, complaining that the network favors Republicans, refused to hold any primary-season debates on Fox. After resisting invitations for months, Obama now plans to appear on Bill O'Reilly's prime-time Fox program on Thursday, the night that John McCain delivers his acceptance speech at the Republican convention here.

Ailes said in an interview Tuesday that he would never have discussed the matter publicly had Vanity Fair not published an account of the earlier portion of the meeting, in which Murdoch sat on one side and Obama and advisers David Axelrod and Robert Gibbs on the other. The article, based on a forthcoming book about Murdoch by Michael Wolff, says Obama told the Australian-born mogul that he didn't want to waste time talking to Ailes if Fox was going to keep attacking the senator and his wife and portraying him as suspicious and foreign.

I'm assuming one of the pre conditions was that Obama's 'interview' be aired the same night as McCain's acceptance speech?

yeah, real classy guy that Obama..  :whatever:

I will catch it in the re-runs and I'm sure O Reilly will fawn all over him like he does Ben Affleck and the other celebutards,

I really have no interest in hearing what he has to say.  It's just regurgitated bullshit from his past speeches and memorized answers.

He can't steal away viewers/listeners from the convention...he had his turn, in addition to conservatives/republicans, undecided and independent voters will be tunining into the convention.

I watch to spot the contradictions and policy reversals.

No that's typical BORe bluster.

He talks a macho game in order to bully the person into appearing with him...then he goes all puppy dog on them.

Remember how he turned into a P*ssy when he interviewed Michael Moore four years ago...yet before that he'd grandstanded on his show about how Moore was scared to talk to him.

oh you know he will turn more moderate and centrist when he's on FOX.. cause most of the country watches that channel. maybe the MSM will finally expose him for the fraud he is once he appears on O Reilly?  :-)

It's ALLLLLLLLLLLLL about O'Reilly. He's made several million off the Right, and he regularly sticks his finger in the air to test how Left he should go.

Both sides need to understand that O'Reilly is neither conservative nor liberal: he's an exploiter, and will do whatever it takes to self-aggrandize. He just sees more money on the Right. He's not looking out for anyone but himself; he's a douchebag of the highest order, having plucked that distinction from Geraldo Rivera.

He won't chase Obama on anything. As soon as he sees Obama getting flustered because he won't have his teleprompter, he'll change the subject or feed him the answer.
