So, I kind of get it now.
I’ve just traveled from “everyone wears a mask” Chicago to “no one wears a mask” Birmingham. Absolutely NO ONE is wearing a mask. Not in restaurants. Not in Costco. Not in the grocery store.
We’ve been wearing a mask the whole time we’ve been here. But, we’re viewed as three headed monsters. They look at you funny. So, I now see how you could let your guard down and not wear a mask if you lived here. My 90 year old mom easily removes her mask in certain situations. She told me that yesterday, she “forgot her mask” at church so she just did church anyway. It sends a false sense of security when no one is wearing a mask. Because, they’re still alive and not dead. I can’t wait to get the hell out of here. It’s insane. You’d never think there is a virus at all. Not sure what we can do about it.

4. they'll figure it out when family members start dropping in the streets
With cases rising so rapidly it's pretty much a given that the unvaccinated gqp tinfoilers are about to be slammed with Omicron due to their stubbornness.
Mild cases for the vaccinated who trusted science, of course, but the unvaccinated will be body slammed.
See, that's kind of the point. That hasn't happened, and likely will not happen. You watch/listen to, too much panic porn. At least one of you kind of understands, but s/he is bending it to make it political and insulting.

19. Well, science strongly SUGGESTS so far that Omicron infections
are milder than previous variants, and by far most infections from those were too mild to require special medical care. In fact, right now although case rates are skyrocketing, death rates are not only not going up, they're so far dropping. (Is that because a milder variant is muscling out the previous more lethal one?)
Most who are unvaccinated have figured out all along that an individual's chances of not becoming seriously ill are good. Even the genuinely stupid ones can see that they still have as many stupid friends heehawing about sheeple in masks now as in 2020. And a big reason so many are able to continue blowing off the hundreds of thousands of deaths so far (nearly 1 in 300 Americans!) is that they haven't lost any family members.

1. Birmingham is >68% blacks. What's bamagal62's beef with black people?
2. Alabama is experiencing a very moderate surge in new cases (~1/3 of last year and begun much later in the year), and Covid deaths have been flat since early November, after a decrease, https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/alabama/ . Illinois' new cases surge is worse than last year and is experiencing a small increase in Covid deaths, https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/illinois/ . Clearly, Alabama is defying bamagal62's hysterical panic.
3. This mini- :bouncy: is an good example of why DUmmies need to be careful to avoid including details in their :bouncy: -tales that can be fact-checked. Reality routinely contradicts and/or complicates their :bouncy: -tales. And by not doing their own fact-checking and cool-story-bro'ing, DU-folk expose their mockery-worthy credulity.

With all the yakking going on in the media about surges and sick people there is one thing I am not hearing about... deaths. Could it be there have been few or no deaths attributed to the variant so all they got is an increase in people getting it? It's like a surge in colds during the winter. It happens but is nothing life-threatening.

Take a gander, https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ . Cases are up, in magnitudes similar to last fall-winter, though blue states seem to be hardest hit at present, e.g. MA, NY, NJ, and IL. Daily deaths are slightly up since early November, but still well less than half of last fall-winter.

That's their choice and the burden they will have to bear. I thought you were all for persoanl choice. And if you are triple vaccinated and wear a mask (which I'm sure you are and do) then what's the problem.
As I stated a few days ago, my sister tested positive on Christmas eve. She called me yesterday, not to tell me how gravely ill she was and how she fears she won't see the new year, but to ask my what might be causing her dishwasher to leak and if I thought she should replace it when she remodels her kitchen in a few months. To her, covid is just a minor cold and is not getting in the way of her life.

12. We travel by car to CA from IL
We wear masks, but many people on route don’t. At the hotels they have the acrylic barriers, but no masks. We go about our disinfecting as if it is the early days of the pandemic. We only stop for gas, rest stops and hotels. We bring our own prepared food. Yay microwaves! Oklahoma had the worst numbers of covid then and still no one wore masks. Except us. Wear a mask.
Sounds like a beautiful way to see the country. A delightful road trip. Memories to last a lifetime.

I put that DU member's post in the same category as "If black Kyle Rittenhouse had shot people at a MAGA rally, would he be treated differently?"; it's not about what's true, it's about what the left wants to be true.

Looking at OK's data, https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/oklahoma/ , they had the surge a year ago, much as did the rest of the US, a surge in cases in the summer that was ~2/3 of the winter 2020-2021 surge, and currently are experiencing a small bump in cases. For a large current surge, look to eastern blue states.
Back to OK, deaths from the summer surge were 1/2-2/3 of the winter 2020-2021 surge, and currently vary so extremely day to day that, other than be much lower still, are too low to recognize a trend. All in all, what I highlighted above is :bs: , unsurprisingly.

Just to be clear:
When y'all say "cases",
does that mean what I think it means,
the number of people who took a test
to find out if they were sick,
and it came up positive?
I have decided that
next time I go to take a test
to find out if I'm sick
I'm going to stop at the cemetery on the way
to find out if I'm dead.
