A Maskless Christmas Eve at an Upscale Supermarket
Lunds & Byerly's is an upscale supermarket chain in the Twin Cities metro area in Minnesota. Today is Christmas Eve, and all other plans for Christmas dinner have fallen apart suddenly. The hostess for the planned Christmas gathering of friends had a positive COVID test yesterday. She'll probably be fine. Like everyone else who would have attended that gathering, she is fully vaccinated and boosted.
That leaves my wife and I to have Christmas to ourselves, which is not what we had planned, but is OK anyhow. So, this morning at 9 AM, I drove 5 minutes to the nearby Lund's & Byerly's to scare up something for tomorrow's dinner. They always have very good, ready-to-heat, pricy holiday food on hand. Since I'm not making a fancy Christmas dinner, I picked up a couple of pre-fab turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing meals to heat up tomorrow. I've had those before, and they're actually quite good. I also bought two single-serving strawberry cheesecakes for dessert. Their bakery makes spectacular desserts like that, and the two desserts cost way more than the two dinners, so we'll have that to look forward to.
However, when I entered the store I was surprised to see that few people were wearing masks. The employees all had them. I was wearing a new N-95 mask. Maybe 25% of the customers I saw were wearing masks. What were the rest thinking? I still don't get it. There's a new, highly contagious variant sweeping the nation, but people appear to believe that Christmas affords them some special protection. It's as if they think the 2000+ year old baby Jesus will somehow keep them safe.
This is very frustrating. So, I kept my distance from other shoppers, and it was early, just after the store opened. I got my food, walked to an empty checkout line, paid my money, thanked the masked checker and bagger, and left as quickly as possible.

2. People don't wear masks so DUers can write posts about how outraged they are after they went to a crowded store the day before a major holiday and most people weren't wearing masks.

Oh my.
In speaking with my niece today to get a recipe for a Christmas Eve soup I used to have at my grammas many lifetimes ago, she told me my uber-liberal multi-millionaire brother and his family traveled from New Jersey to Ohio to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas day with the rest of the family. Only upon his arrival did he bother to ask about vaccination status. When he was told NO ONE took the vax, and since he and his family are vax'd and boosted, he backed out and said he was going to spend the time with friends.
Now, knowing my brother and his love of money, I don't think he had any desire to spend time with his "poor" relatives and only used vax status as his excuse. I think he simply wanted to be with his rich friends otherwise he wouldn't have made the trip if he knew vax status.
My niece and her daughter, both nurses, refuse to get the shot..
It's amazing to me family would do that to family, but, it is what it is..

You mean like some certain folks on Martha's Vineyard believe it is enough to just be sophisticated and you will not have any worries of catching covid at a massive indoor birthday party right?
I guess climate change also bypasses the sophisticated there as well. ::)

So rockhead said the hostess who tested positive for covid will probably be ok, so then why is he so freaked at maskless people since he seems to have accepted that the chi-vi isn't that bad?
-
earlier this year, both of Rock's parents died, and ever since, he won't stopped bragging about his inheritance. And he's long retired, why can't they cook the meal themselves?

lot of good that did her

This from rockhead was too delicious to pass up and Frank had already posted it.

Virtue signaling and humble bragging.

Not knowingly. Brandon just read what was put in front of him by his puppeteers.
