Yet another reason why every conservative asshole who ever attacked Jimmy Carter ...
can kiss my ****ing ass.
In 1952, newly minted US Navy Lieutenant James Earl Carter was placed in charge of an effort to contain the catastrophic effects of the world's first nuclear meltdown at the Chalk River plant in Ottawa, Canada. Carter was detailed to this assignment having been personally selected for the Navy's nuclear program by Admiral Hyman Rickover (a man famous for not suffering fools gladly).
Upon arriving on scene, Jimmy Carter had himself lowered into the radioactive Hell that was the plant core in order to assess the situation. (90 seconds was the prescribed time limit for the absorption of a radiation level which was hundreds of times higher than today's scientific knowledge would describe as safe. His urine was radioactive for months afterward.)
Under Lieutenant Carter's direction, the core was shut down, and in the words of Canadian officials, "Ottawa was saved". The situation was that dire.
This is the man that Ronald Reagan (who spent WWII making inspirational movies for the home front) described as weak and ineffective.
This is the man who countless Fox"News" personalities have used as a punching bag for over 40 years.
This is the man who Donald Trump, between consuming buckets of Kentucky Fried Chicken, called a "loser".
So **** 'em. **** every single right wing jackass who ever belittled one of the finest men ever to ascend to the Presidency.

Hey, at least Jimmy Carter is only the 3rd worst President in my lifetime. So he has that going for him, which is nice.

Jimmy Carter. This is the man who I have sworn to piss on his grave.
I will try for Biden, and hopefully I will live long enough for 0bama...but I think the lines in front of their graves will be much longer.

Don't know what 11 Bravo's source was, but it seems to exaggerate Carter's role substantially. From W'pedia, a reliably Lib/Prog source where such things are in play, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Carter#Education :
On December 12, 1952, an accident with the experimental NRX reactor at Atomic Energy of Canada's Chalk River Laboratories caused a partial meltdown, resulting in millions of liters of radioactive water flooding the reactor building's basement. This left the reactor's core ruined. Carter was ordered to Chalk River to lead a U.S. maintenance crew that joined other American and Canadian service personnel to assist in the shutdown of the reactor. The painstaking process required each team member to don protective gear and be lowered individually into the reactor for a few minutes at a time, limiting their exposure to radioactivity while they disassembled the crippled reactor. During and after his presidency, Carter said that his experience at Chalk River had shaped his views on atomic energy and led him to cease development of a neutron bomb.
IRL:
* Carter led a team, not the team;
* Carter took turns with multiple team members in doing the work;
* The job was disassembling the reactor, not shutting it down.
* This happened in 1952. Who among us were born in or before then? What in Hades does what JEC did in 1952 have to do with what he did 25+ years later. I'm going to have to disagree with Ralph, though. IMO, Clinton, OhBummer!, and LIEden were/are worse than Carter, not that that means Carter was anywhere near OK.
Is 11 Bravo DU's infamous Valor-Stealer? Or am I mixing up the name with that of some other DU-member?

Obviously personal choice, but I put that horndog Slick Willie as the 4th worst President in my lifetime, just ahead of Carter, Obama and General Poopy Pants. But friends can agree to disagree.

One word: Stagflation.
I’ll add to that the Iran hostage crisis which he totally screwed up.
Besides, Jimmy had a much smarter brother named Billy who could have performed just as incompetently as he did.

Thanks for amassing the particulars, SV. Otherwise, Wokepedia rules the conversation. The network news programs tried to hype every innocuous detail about Carter's service, but barely touched the Chalk River incident because nothing stood-out about Carter's involvement. They probably couldn't track-down anybody who even remembered him.

An excellent add to anyone's library:

DUmmies who find their lips get numb reading can probably get it in audio version from their public library. :whistling: Free. :whistling:

Reagan and Trump were right, Jimmuh is a weak ineffective loser. But why are the primitives wasting precious time trying to rehabilitate Carter's reputation when they have a much more urgent and immediate problem with the current pants-shitting disaster of a pResident?
-
So if we are to believe DUmmy bravo's story, nobody thought to shut down the reactor until Carter drew the short straw and was lowered into the bubbling cauldron?
I call bullshit

I don't know anyone who thinks Carter is a bad man, but he was definitely a bad president.

I was "there" 10 or 20 years ago, but Carter's past decade or two of very public antisemitic hatred of Israel and support for the Arab-Pali terror groups/"governments" changed my mind about Carter.

Those in better informed states than I can correct me if I am in error, but it's my understanding that Adm. Rickover personally had the final approval over EVERY officer applying for assignment aboard the US Navy's nuclear powered ships for the duration of his tenure with the Navy. That amounts to HUNDREDS of men at least; quite possibly a few THOUSAND.
So how does this make the Anti-semitic peanut farmer speshul again, DUmbass? Or excuse the bastard's complete incompetence as a national leader - something of a recurring problem in the Dim'Rat communist party, it seems?
