63 Years Ago Today 2Sep 1945 USS Missouri

This OP includes some very nice photos of V-J Day in Tokyo Bay.

A glorious day in American history.

(Little known fact: TomInTib was there, having just returned from assembling the weapon on board the Enola Gay. He is just out of the frame, standing behind General MacArthur, who, he assures us, was an overbearing bastard, whom Tom refused to salute. Nimitz was an okay guy, who also took his Bombay Sapphire neat. Once again, the TiT crossed paths with Forest Gump.)

Now, this bonfire's worth watching.

Thus far only two primitives have been at it, with generally upbeat comments.

But how long before other primitives rain on the parade?

You left out the part about him trying to convince them not to drop it after he put it together, but then that darn COL Tibbits locked him in the bathroom.

This has nothing to do with the DUmp, just a bit of Hacksaw family history:

When my grandfather died, the family had set out some photo albums. Now, I knew he served in the Navy and had been stationed on Guam doing what he called "Clean up detail". That was about all he would say. I picked up one photo album I had never seen and started leafing through it. It was then I knew what he meant by "Clean Up Detail". The photos were of dead Japanese soldiers that he had to help bury.

Anyway, I came upon some pics that looked familiar, but I couldn't exactly place where I had seen them before. It was then I realized that those pics were taken upon the USS Missouri during the Japanese surrender. They were taken from a different angle than those I had been used to seeing in the history books! That's why I didn't recognize them right away.

:saluteaf: Happy V-J day Grandpa. :salutenavy:

Great story Hacksaw! Could you perhaps scan and post those epics so we could enjoy them too?
Thanks.

As much as I would love to, I don't have them. I think my cousin who is in the Navy (HM1) has the photo album. I'll send him an email and see if he'd hook me up with them.
