N95 Tips

I know some people are buying N95s. You can get them at lots of hardware stores these days. Thank you Joe Biden!!!

I'm a nurse and I wear them.

I don't think you can easily get fit tested if you are not a health care worker.

One thing they tell us to do each time we put on the mask to make sure we have a good seal is to use both hands to press on the nose piece.

Also, take a sharp deep breath out and put your hands on the side of the mask to feel for your breath escaping. You can also do it by exhaling to feel the breath movement.

If you are reusing masks keep them in a paper bag and they do recommend doing the seal check with each use even with us who have been fit tested.

The top strap goes by the top of your head the bottom strap goes below your ears.

There are different sizes of masks so you might find a small works better for you if your mask is leaking.

Also, having a beard or a big mustache is a no for N95s working well. Even a lot of makeup is a no. Our chaplain was very bummed he had to shave the beard he had for decades. But, he did it.

I can't tell you how many people who have verbally poked at me for not wearing a mask that I've told "if you were serious about the mask, you'd shave."  They never agreed to shave because they didn't think it mattered and I didn't know what I was talking about.  Oh well.

Here's the reason I brought this over;

7. So glad to see that masks are re-entering the conversation

And for those who missed it the first time, this graphic is proof that a public wearing its masks will reduce their exposure to COVID substantially:

9. Exactly. Too many people think that getting the vaccine/booster means no more masks

They're very misguided and need to be re-educated on the topic.

Uh, that's what everyone was told AND if your vaccine is working, why would you need to wear a mask?  Some of you worried you'll still get infected?  I've read that you don't believe the science that says you can spread it while being vaccinated.  What is the point of getting the vaccine if nothing changes?

Ralphie is allergic to N95 masks, as I broke out in a horrid rash in June 2020 after wearing it to finally get a haircut.  Asked my doctor and she said it is actually quite common.

Fear porn, it's everywhere!!! :panic: :panic: :panic:

It's not about the mask - it's about the compliance. That's why it doesn't matter what fabric is used, as long as it's pointlessly dropped over the nose and mouth they'll be happy.

Our idiotic government have just brought them back in for shops and public transport 'for a three week evaluation period' while they decide how bad the new scariant is. Does nothing to stop the spread of the virus, just empowers the little fascist wannabes who like to boss other people around.

Thanks Joe Biden for providing what Real President Trump had been providing since June 2020.

Oh also thanks Joe Biden you pedophile, for killing more people than President Trump with a vaccine available.

I still wear a bandanna that my wife sewed elastic on as a mask. It doesn't do shit, but it satisfies the mask Nazis when needed and it doesn't fog my glasses up

In real life, President Trump got companies to boost their production of N95 and other PPE as well: https://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/topic,412486.0.html . LIEden did nothing.

No kidding, completely true.

Since I reside in a free state, we have no mask mandates of any kind and haven't almost all year.  The only place that I'm forced to wear one is a few times a month when I take a ride sharing service.  And half the time the driver says not to worry about wearing it anyway.  I usually thank them and reply that I just don't want to go to "Uber" jail.

That thread is a full-blown Religion of The Mask orgy, with all the zeal and devotion of a snake handler's tent revival.

Look at this poor dope:

For those of us in or approaching our Golden Years, we can’t ditch precautions yet. And definitely not those with any health concerns.

We’re still hitting stores seldom, only at non-peak times, and during “senior hour” when available. Masking in those settings is a given. We’ve abandoned indoor dining (although it sure was fun during the pre-Delta lull for a few weeks there), and scaling back visits with friends to small gatherings with people we feel very sure are as careful as we are.

Air travel is out for the foreseeable future, and even out-of-town car trips for at least a while. Not fun, but that’s reality right now.

Bet your "small gatherings" are a real hoot.  And what is the matter with out-of-town car trips?

Good Lord, how pathetically fear-driven!

I seldom "hit stores", but because my shopping strategy has always been, "Get in, get it, and get out." What are "senior hours"? Not that I'd go out of my way to shop during such a time (and I probably would qualify).

Masking in stores is currently required in my county, so I do. When it was option, I didn't. Likewise at my work.

Our family was at a nice sit-down Italian restaurant last night, and we probably do that more or less weekly.

Small group gatherings ... :rotf: last Saturday I was at a running event with some 600 finishers of the three distances, plus probably another hundred volunteers handing out bibs & Tees, staffing aid stations, and preparing and handing out finish area goodies. OTOH, when I got exposed it probably was during one of two 10 minute drives with the source, who had also been exposed during a 10 minute drive with an infected person. Not exactly a large group gathering.

My wife and I flew to KC for a nephew's wedding last July, and four of my eight recent in-person running events have been out of town, though an hour's drive or less. My exposure, when it happened, was less than 10 minutes' drive from home.

Exactly. Where I work we have a display with LOTS of masks that don't sell even while on sale.

Ya, DUmmies, regular peeps aren't falling for the B.S.

Did anyone else think immediately when you saw the thread title N95 Tips "Ugh, not another Mineralman this-is-how-you-do-some-common-task-everyone-already-knows-how-to-do post"?
I am not sure if I was letdown by the fact it is not a MM post.  :???:

I was at a hardware store had a cart full of things. A clerk comes up and says you know you have to wear a mask. I never had to before. He then demanded I wear one. I said OK turned around and left my cart full of stuff and walked out. Clerk was maybe mid 20s. I shutter to think of the fascism we are breeding right now in the young.

I don't even raise my voice at the little jack boots like your snot-nosed clerk. I simply tell them I have a respiratory condition that prevents my use of a mask, and that according to ADA it's a $75,000 fine for them to even ask what it might be. I then smile and ask if they have the checkbook handy.

You should have walked back through the store putting it all back up. You know, be kind.
