When talking to DUmmies I would think this would be very common subject, what with the filthy nasty houses I see pictures of at the DUmp.

The kid's got lice
Time for me to set aside political nitpicking in favor of real-life nitpicking.
Changed bedding? check
Swapped out mattress for spare? check
Spray his usual mattress? check
Laundered clothes? check
Treated and shampooed with lice shampoo? check
Louse combing and nit picking? check
Vacuum the house and wipe down his bedframe, probably overkill but check.
Anything else we should do?

I remember lice checks all through elementary school. Never saw or heard of a single kid with lice.
-
At least the kid does not have Rim Pests !

In fairness to the DUmmies, school did start last week in many places and head lice are easily communicable. So it may not be the cleaning habits of the DUmmy in question which caused this particular infestation, although that is certainly a possibility.
-
Although I hate to defend a DUmmie, lice doesn't discriminate between clean or dirty. Regular soap and shampoo don't bother them a bit.

Rim pests (Crabs) are selective ,at least I always thought so...

We just finished with lice here...they don't care how clean you are.

My niece just went through an episode of this, at her summer day camp. Because she had been with my daughter three days before, we had to check our daughter and alert the day care people. No lice, though I did notice that my head itched a lot more in the next few days.
-
We had em go through my elementary school, when I was in about 3rd grade.
I suspect that calling a school assembly and grouping all 300 or so students together to tell us about it wasn't the brightest idea they'd ever come up with.

Yep! We dealt with it before summer break and it was traveling around the school(kids before mine had it and one of those was one of my daughter's good friends so there you go). :banghead:

Lice actually like clean hair.

Why in the hell would you post some shit like this on an internet message board?
Hey CC, I got the crabs. Any advice? :whatever:

Because Kev, when you have kids in elementary school....when 1 kid gets it....at least here when my kids were that age...the school sent out an alert if one kid had it and every kid was to have their head treated with the lice shampoo stuff.
Usually happened at the first of every school year. I will say though....that once it happened, there wasn't a problem the rest of the year....which could be why every kid was to be treated. They kept it from spreading all over school.
Always wondered if the school did it...as a preventative measure.

While I agree with this:

I also agree with this:

At any rate, every time I read or hear the word "lice", my head itches.
Thank goodness we haven't had this at my house yet.....I would flip out, and my husband would probably completely lose it. How DO you get rid of them??? Can they get on the pets? Ugh. <shiver>

I started the "itch thing" just reading this!!!
Mine never had them, but since we had to "treat" them anyhow....
There used to be ...and I think still is....a specific shampoo to use on the kid's head.
You also have to wash all bedding and towels. I replaced the pillows, but pillows can be washed now and thrown in the dryer which I do every couple of months now just for fresher pillows.
I also replaced my daughter's hairbrush. But you could probably put it in the dishwasher.

If they get them, you use a special shamppo (at any pharmacy), and then you have to comb our all the nits (or eggs) or the whole thing just starts over again. PITA if you have a littel girl with long thick hair.
Wash all the bedding, bag up stuffed animals, etc in palstic bags for a couple weeks (or wash the eashable ones), vaccum thoroughly.
Animals don't get them for some reason.
If there is a known outbreak around, put girls' hair up in a pony or bun, and use hair gels and sprays liberally. It repels the little buggars. Also, drill into your kids' head to NOT share caps/ brushes or anything.
