Red America is now dying from COVID-19 at a clearly higher rate than blue America
By the end of 2020, there was no discernible difference between the rate of people who died of COVID-19 from areas that voted for President Biden and those who voted for former President Donald Trump — but "then the vaccines arrived," and "they proved so powerful, and the partisan attitudes toward them so different, that a gap in COVID's death toll quickly emerged," David Leonhardt writes in Monday's New York Times. And now, "the gap in COVID's death toll between red and blue America has grown faster over the past month than at any previous point."
Residents of heavily Trump counties were more than three times likelier to die from COVID in October than those in heavily Biden countries — 25 per 100,000 versus 7.8 per 100,000 — Leonhardt reports. "Some conservative writers have tried to claim that the gap may stem from regional differences in weather or age, but those arguments fall apart under scrutiny." In fact, he argues, the "straightforward" explanation is that "the vaccines are remarkably effective at preventing severe COVID, and almost 40 percent of Republican adults remain unvaccinated, compared with about 10 percent of Democratic adults."
So while the pandemic has shifted regions, Leonhardt writes, "COVID deaths have been concentrated in counties outside of major metropolitan areas. Many of these are in red states, while others are in red parts of blue or purple states, like Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Virginia, and even California.""
"This situation is a tragedy, in which irrational fears about vaccine side effects have overwhelmed rational fears about a deadly virus," Leonhardt writes, but the good news is that the partisan gap very well may have peaked, thanks to promising new antiviral COVID-19 medications from Pfizer and Merck and greater natural immunity in hard-hit red America. There are caveats, like that natural immunity appears to be weaker than vaccinated immunity, and that so much about the pandemic is still mysterious. Read more at The New York Times.

7. This theory has been debunked.
NBC looked at the last 100,000 deaths. Deaths which occured when vaccines were readily available to anyone. They looked at the age, sex and race of all 100,000 people. They found:
Of the last 100,000 people who died 32.5% were Black. That is a far outsize share given blacks are around 9% of the population.
Hispanics make up 22.3% of the latest 100k deaths. That is well over their 12-14% share of the population.
Non-Hispanic whites are 32.1% of the deaths, far lower than their 58% share of the population.
It also defines "young people" as anyone 54 or younger. Now 54 is young? Regardless they made up only 8.7% of the deaths of the last 100k.
It says 68.2% of the deaths were minorities of the last 100k deaths..
https://www.nbcnews.com/specials/new-faces-of-covid-deaths/index.html
If you click on the link you will find a poorly written headline which does not match the acutal figures in the study. I don't know about red states and blue states but if 68% of the deaths are minorities then given the normal voting patterns it is not reality to say Rs are dying more than Ds.
O-)

likely to die.
There are Black people in the south. Think about it.

22. POC in red states tend to be Democrats. Democrats tend to be vaccinated
Republicans (meaning whites in red states) tend not to be vaccinated.
White republicans thus make up a disproportionate number of Covid deaths, as vaccination is very effective at preventing death.

24. The figures from NBC do not back your assertion.
Non-Hispanic whites are 32.1% of the deaths, far lower than their 58% share of the population.

29. The figure from other sources do back these numbers up
Just because NBC supports your conclusions does make make their numbers better

42. I just read the NBC report.
That report says, Black people and white people make up outsize shares. That's the headline for that section of the article. The text following that then says that when covid hit last year black people and native americans made up a disproportionate amount of the deaths. It then states that white people make up a much greater share of the last 100,000 deaths. They note that black deaths are down by 10.1, hispanic deaths are up by 4.9 and white deaths are up by 16.7. This report is meant to show the most recent trends not the totals to date.

43. 22 confirmed COVID19 deaths in my very red, home county since the start of the pandemic
There's counties not far from where I live where there's been less then a dozen confirmed COVID19 deaths since the start of the pandemic. For example, Alger county has 9. Schoolcraft has 5.
Wayne County, metro Detroit, has almost 5 times the number of confirmed COVID19 deaths then the 15 counties of Upper Michigan combined.
In 2020, Trump got 75% of his vote in MI from counties considered urban or mostly urban so it'd make sense that the majority of deaths in MI from COVID19 have occurred in the urban or mostly urban counties. Trump got more votes in Wayne county then in all of Upper Michigan and in many of the counties in northern lower Michigan combined.

46. Maybe Republicans are punishing themselves for their transgressions?
After all the lying and cheating they have done they probably feel well-deserved shame and guilt. But being Republicans they cannot face the truth directly. So their subconscious guides them to act like stupid, arrogant, invulnerable fools: then they get sick.
And then their families get sick. Some die. Some will suffer LongCOVID all the rest of their days.
Sad.
If they would just repent and try to be honest and decent for a change, FORGIVENESS could be theirs.

Only problem is this is all a lie and only leftist propaganda.

They actually think that so many republican voters are going to die from COVID as to possibly shift the upcoming elections to the dems? :thatsright:
Tell me, how is it Florida republican registrations now outnumber democrats after all the carnage caused by "DeathSantis"? How are republicans winning so handily in the generic ballot? Hmm?

The NBC report - linked by the other less insane DU member, former9thward - gives deaths demographics inconsistent with the OP claim. Taking the first sentence of the OP at face value (incorrectly, wrt the blue states I picked, BTW), 'By the end of 2020, there was no discernible difference between the rate of people who died of COVID-19 from areas that voted for President Biden and those who voted for former President Donald Trump — but "then the vaccines arrived,"' and looking here, https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ , here are the deaths per 1M population numbers for:
NY - 2945
NJ - 3163
MA - 2770
and
TX - 2498
FL - 2813
GA - 2777
SD - 2563
The three blue states I picked had, IRL, some of the worst death rates in the country at the end of 2020. Aaaaaaaand they still do. Also BTW, the doses per 100K population (found here, https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#vaccinations_vacc-total-admin-rate-total ) for NY, NJ, and FL are not dramatically different. So the DU OP claim is just imaginary superiority complex :jerkit: ing.
and they say they have not politicized the chi-vi....
The thread is DUpipo rejoicing at the imagined high death rate of people they hate.
-
since the survival rate is 99.97%, I'll take my chances. The worst that can happen is I get good drugs and a better immunity than their vax can provide.
-
They actually think that so many republican voters are going to die from COVID as to possibly shift the upcoming elections to the dems? :thatsright:
Since people vote Democrat after they die the DUmmies may have a valid point. :-)
-
Typical leftist propaganda.
When relatively lowish population red states have greater "rates" than high population blue states, it generally means that the high population states have far greater absolute numbers, and that the people flinging "rates" at you would rather not talk about them in those terms.
Same shgit they try to pull with gun control, painting low population states with nearly no crime as more dangerous using "rates".

Context, context, context ... looking here, https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/texas/ , see all those deaths that happened in December 2020 and in January or February 2021? Those were unvaccinated people who could not have been vaccinated because the vaccine had not yet been authorized when they caught Covid, or not yet used with people as young as they were. A Texan could give the correct time, but if TX did similarly to CA, people not in certain professions and under age 70 or 75 could NOT receive the vaccine until March 2021.
Did KWTX include this context that knocks a 2-4 month hole in their stats for 2021 unvaxxed Covid deaths? Lying by omission?
Further, until May 2021, children under age 16 were not allowed to be vaccinated, and until late October or early November, neither could children under age 12.
Did KWTX include this context that knocks a 5-6 month hole and another 10 month hole in their stats for 2021 unvaxxed Covid deaths? Lying by omission, again?
Statistics don't lie, but liars pretzellate statistics knowing many people won't spot the pretzellation.
