This came across my feed at minds.com:
In 1975, President Ford was left to manage the difficult ending of the Vietnam War.
President Ford went to Congress for a relief package to allow American personnel and our allies to evacuate. However, there was ONE USSENATOR- who opposed any such support. The result was the embarrassing and hurried evacuation from the roof of the American embassy in Saigon.
This senator reveled in the embarrassment and did everything he could to leverage it politically against Ford.
Despite the efforts of this U.S. Senator--President Ford managed to rescue 1,500 South Vietnamese allies prior to the country's fall. Had President Ford not acted quickly, these people would have been targeted and slaughtered for their support for America.
When they arrived in America, President Ford asked Congress for a relief package to assist these refugees to integrate into American society.
That SAME troublesome SENATOR TORPEDOED ANY SUPPORT for these shell shocked, anti-communist, Americans and our helpers, the refugees.
Instead, President Ford had to recruit Christian organizations to offer assistance on a voluntary basis. As he did so, the Senator belittled those efforts. What kind of person would oppose President Ford's tireless work to do the right and humanitarian thing? Who would want to play politics with the well-being of innocent people who stood by America in the tragic Vietnam War?
THAT SENATOR WAS JOE BIDEN
From the book - "When the Center Held." by Donald Rumsfeld in 2018.(biography)

I can't vouch for the part about biden being the douchebag senator but I attended a Christian elementary school from 1973 thru 1976 and I recall that the school sponsored a couple of Vietnamese families at living quarters on the school property. These were boat people who were rescued and brought to the states.

It's all very true--I can't imagine Donald Rumsfeld lying in an actual book--and there's more to it. I stole this from you and posted it both at hide5 and on freerepublic.

I see FR is still stylistically wretched, but good work. Glad to see this getting out there. The reply with the news article was very helpful.

I was just reading about this the other day. Seems confirmed to me.
Biden cares for nothing or nobody other than himself. He has no moral compass or sense of gratitude for the sacrifices that others have made on his behalf. I even question his so-called "grief" regarding his son Beau's death to cancer.
He uses that like some kind of badge of honor, that he was able to withstand that event without crumbling.
Well, maybe he did crumble and that's why he's morphed into being an even douchebag than he was back in 1975.

Seems like the case could be made that Biden doesn't like POC.

All I can remember is that Biden or anybody else opposing the evacuation, would've had no voice.
The Sunday news-shows didn't engage in intrinsic back-and-forths... especially insignificant ones. Maybe, maybe on The McLaughlin Group... with a third-party articulating somebody like Biden's ranting.
Meanwhile Ford proved his leadership by (no pun intended) navigating the country out of the USS Mayaquez incident, which we were quickly able to see, was a 'fog of war' blunder... having nothing to do with DC-directives at the time.

I was active duty at the time and had my hands full with what I was supposed to do. Didn't even have a TV at the time.
But I couldn't care less whether or not those opposing the Vietnamese had a voice or not -- the fact that Biden had the temerity of throwing those Vietnamese under the bus spoke volumes. And, as we've learned of late, a leopard doesn't change his spots.
In some kind of way, Biden's cruelty was replaced by the Vietnamese Boat People operation, which brought many Vietnamese more than willing to assimilate and support their adopted country. I believe the same is true of the Afghanis who supported us, much moreso than the Central American Hispanics that are simply looking for a better gig because they're not willing to tackle the problems in their own country.
