I am a gay man of a certain age
I was 13 in 1981 when we started hearing about this odd disease killing gay men. I was 19 in 1987, when AZT got its approval as a treatment. For those 6 years, the entire gay and lesbian community (as it was called then LGBT community now) demonstrated, marched, begged, pleaded, and did anything else they could think of to get any treatment for this horrible disease. If we would have been offered a free vaccine in 1982 we would have crawled over irradiated, broken glass to get it. I am just going to say this, I literally can't fathom or get over the utter irresponsibility and selfishness of the people who are protesting not to have this vaccine, not to wear masks (I do have to be fair and point out barebacking was very much a thing in the gay community), and all of the rest. 40 years ago we would have built statues to the creator of such a vaccine.
There is SO much wrong with this comparison I don’t even know where to begin!! This post pissed me off!!
On my phone so I’m bringing nothing else over, but this is enough.

What if the government had locked down bathhouses and mandated condoms? 🤔

27. Republicans laughed at AIDS deaths
In the 80's, Rush Limbaugh would read from the names of gay men who died of AIDS, and after each name, played a laugh track and/or applause.
Liberals lie so easily. It's almost amazing how easily they make up lies, and then believe them.

They would have "crawled over irradiated, broken glass ..." to get a vaccine, but they wouldn't stop porking each other or bother to wear condoms.
Yet this person is apoplectic that people who have done nothing wrong don't want to wear a mask (which is and always has been, theater), or get a vaccine for something they don't have and if they do get, have a 99.8% chance of surviving.

I recall this a little differently. I remember this as a self-destructive community narcissistically demanding an instant cure from drug companies and the government that was starting at zero in a process that normally does take years. The HIV virus has proved so difficult to figure out that to this day there is no approved anti-HIV vaccine. To this day Progs lie about Reagan, claiming he opposed funding AIDS research.
A possible ray of hope on the HIV front is that Johnson & Johnson is testing a viral vector vaccine, currently in Africa. Viral vector vaccine technology is only slightly less new than mRNA technology. The first viral vector vaccines approved for use, both for Ebola, were approved in 2019 and mid 2020. Viral vector vaccine technology wasn't around in the 1980s and 1990s, early in the search for HIV/AIDS treatments and vaccines; nor was the ability to sequence a virus' DNA, on which both viral vector and mRNA vaccine technologies hinge.

Is Sponge Bob speaking as a gay sponge? :rimshot:
More seriously, the DUmmie could simply have said, "I remember when ...". Saying, "I am a gay man of a certain age," combined virtue-signalling and tweaking older DUpipo ("I'm not as OLD as some of you old farts!").

I am a gay man of a certain age....
reminds me of a fictitious gay character that radio personality Phil Hendrie created for his radio comedy show. The character is a newspaper reporter named Doug Dannger who is gay and prefaces most of his comments with "as a gay man and a gay journalist..." when his gayness has no real bearing on the conversation taking place. He frequently "calls in" to Phil's radio show and brings his "gay edge" to every conversation which often enrages the radio listeners who call in to argue with the character while Phil referees the ordeal.

They should have. AIDS was then an almost 100% killer.

It amazed me how many people did not know Hendrie's "guests" were fake. Knowing that I found him irritating so stopped listening (we was kicked off KFI L.A. very suddenly for reasons no one would say).
But these DUmmies always lead with their victim profile. Maybe we should assign a number to speed things along. With a little thought and maybe some binary math I could come up with something.

El Rushbo didn't start getting syndicated until 88, so conveniently, finding such proof would be hard work, or require giving the EIB money for archive access, neither of which are in most moonbat's wheelhouse.

Prior to being syndicated Rush was on Sacramento's 50 KW KFBK (and was picked up by KFBK after going national). I doubt the station would have kept him on the air had he done what the DUmmie-Liar claimed.
