On a plane from Denver to Charlotte following the Democrats' convention, I found myself seated behind former National Chairman of the Democratic National Committee Don Fowler and Congressman John Spratt of South Carolina. Their conversation was interesting to say the least.
For example, they made fun of Sarah Palin for several minutes, Fowler calling her "Dan Quayle" on steroids and Spratt creatively describing her as "just terrible." They both agreed that, "Other than the simple fact that she's a female," she has nothing to offer.
Then there was this gem of a moment from Fowler:

...when DU was squealing with glee we thought it was just the kook fringe on the dems.
Turns out the kook fringe is the mainstream of the dems.

How can they be that dense?
I mean, no matter your ideology, you should be practicing realpolitik. That is why Gingrich and Rove have been so successful -- they see what is, not what they would like to be.
If this is the head of the Enemy then may he continue to call the shots. Remember what Napoleon said: "Do not stop your enemy when he is making a mistake."
And yes, I say Enemy, not just Opponent.
