Title: Next time you visit Portland and want a doughnut, don't go to Voodoo Doughnut

I want to know why the Pacific North West wasn’t prepared for this heat wave!!  Why are the DUmmies not castigating the PNW for not being prepared like they did Texas during the ice storm we had. We need to know who should be strung up for this debacle!

Next time you visit Portland and want a doughnut, don't go to Voodoo Doughnut

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Eleven employees at Voodoo Doughnuts in Old Town said they went on strike after facing heat exhaustion during the record-breaking heat wave last weekend, and said 7 of the 11 have been fired.

Max Fleisher told KOIN 6 News he was fired from Voodoo Doughnuts on Thursday. He said the extreme heat created an unsafe work environment. He has pics of thermometers from inside the Old Town location that showed the inside temp was 95 and 96.

“It’s super frustrating. We know that it’s a protected action. It was unsafe in the store,” Fleisher told KOIN 6 News. “Like I said people were getting hives, people were getting nose bleeds, we were very concerned about the heat.”

35. Please don't do this.
If you and your wife are impervious to heat and all the other ills that flesh is heir to, that's really nice. For you. It does not help anyone else. Your experience was your experience. Your wife's experience was her experience. Those experiences have nothing to do with anyone else's experiences.

People in the Pacfic Northwest are experiencing something highly abnornal right now, and they are suffering. A significant number are DYING. They deserve our sympathy, not a lecture about how some stranger on the internet thinks they "should" be feeling.

I'll admit I'm a little biased. I do not handle heat well myself (I start to fold up like a wilted flower somewhere in the mid 90s), and that heat dome sounds like one of my worst nightmares come to life. I can hardly stand to think about how horrible that must be, and listening to someone minimize the misery that's going on out there does not sit right with me.

It’s actually a pretty fun thread to read, but I’m on my phone so this is all I’m snagging.

Enjoy

Oh, the HORROR!! They should have just burnt the place down.

If you can't take the heat don't get a job in the kitchen. The owners will have some new illegals replacing them for half the wages and they will be happy to have the job. :thatsright:

I've done field work, for hours at a time, at 95F or higher and with full sun exposure. This was the summer between my junior and senior year in high school. I've also walked, at age >60, a 5K event at ~90F and full sun exposure. A quart of electrolyte drink and another quart or two of water, and you're good - uncomfortable, but safe.

You know what would be good entertainment... watching a few of these commies bale hay for a weekend.

Why would I go to to Portland Oregon for a donut? We've got plenty of donut shops here in the SF Bay Area which are just as good or better. In fact why would I have any desire to visit a liberal cesspool like Portland at all? I've got better things to do.

Max, yeah right.  Maxine is more like it.

The closest DUpipo come to a bale of hay is having alfalfa sprouts on a salad or sandwich.

Never watched thermometers when I've worked in kitchens, but 95-96 sounds about right, at minimum.

Most of them wouldn't last 10 minutes.  All the dust and pollen would blow up their under exposed and over medicated allergies before even touching the hay.

I started out in my industry as a welder. Wearing long sleeve shirts and pants. Wearing leather sleeves and gloves. Wearing a hard hat and welding hood. Building water towers, tanks, and tanks for the oil and gas industry. It gets hot. I’ve sweated through my leather sleeves many a day. Inside the tank it is not unusual for actual temps to be above 120°F and you’re welding. It’s hot!

Nowadays I’m a project manager in the same field. I watch my people working in the same conditions I did, but they get heat mitigation breaks that we never got. I’m glad they get them, but they’re just a few minutes and it’s back to work. They never stop.

These people would die.

Working on a furnace with molten glass in the middle of August was always a good time. The maintenance guys would work 15/ off 15 til the job was finished
