A new talking point/slogan just occurred to me, regarding the GOP and January 6th
Why don't Republicans want a January 6th commission?
They don't want to get to the bottom of it because THEY are AT the bottom of it.
(Capitalization for verbal emphasis.)
Optional:
They don't want to get to the bottom of it because they're ALREADY AT the bottom of it.

16. Absolutely on point
McCarthy was for the commission before he was against it. Interestingly, his reversal followed Liz Cheney's interview where she stated that McCarthy should be called to testify under oath what he knew and when he knew it.
The Republican (Party?) is complicit in the January 6th debacle. Which is why they do not want an investigation spoiling their plans for 2022 and beyond.
The GOP is not a loyal opposition. They are seditionists.

20. And it's fair to correct those who try to label the insurrectionists as mere "tourists."
Maybe they should point out that the PROPER pronunciation of that word is "terrorists."
TERRORISTS. NOT "tourists." Proper enunciation underscores your point.

26. I am so old I remember when
the slogan was...
Remember Pearl Harbor
How about
Remember the Sixth!
or Never Forget the Sixth!
that puts you in the late 80s...

56. Each one of them is guilty.
Each one played a part. Each one knows they will be called to testify. Each one should be sworn in as a hostile witness.
Thank you for your OP, calimary.

64. I've been mulling over some language in terms of describing the current Republican party
The Republican party is now the Anti-Democracy party. They are now clearly anti-democracy and pro-authoritarian.
How to articulate that and make it stick?
For example, the anti-abortion movement knocked it out of the park with “pro-life” and “pro-abortion”. That language fundamentally changed the playing field.
Who is not pro-life? Who is actually pro-abortion?
So, how do we do the same thing to them? They are against everything hold most dear.
Any suggestions on how to weaponize the language we use to talk about these evil, corrupt, disloyal bastards?

You know you suck hard at persuasion when you have to brainstorm with the hive mind at DU for ideas.

Now do election audits.

Why don't Republicans want a January 6th commission?
I'll answer that with a question: Why don't the democrats want to broaden the scope to include investigating the involvement of blm, antifa and other left leaning terrorist groups on that day?

Absolutely NOBODY in the normal world in real life gives a shit about January 6.
Capitalization for emphasis. :lmao:

Nor did anyone outside of the media care about the Liz Cheney kerfuffle.

Agreed. But IF it is allowed to go forward it will NOT be bipartisan. Half Democrats + Half Republicans is a joke. It will have a few, maybe more than a few. Trump hating, MAGA hating, Rinos on it. It will be a neverending "fishing expedition", anonymous whistle blower, "breaking news" leak driven circus.
Since it will be a de-facto trial of President Trump and MAGA folks the only fair way would be to allow President Trump to name the Republican half of the commission. I think we all know that ain't gonna happen.
On the bright side, I don't believe they will get 10 Republican senators to stop the filibuster ... but it will be close.

Why don't Democrats want a May 31st 2020 commission? You know, when DC was on fire? How hard did the FBI search for those rioters? How many of those photos went viral and were identified by people on the internet? Did they catch the racists who burnt down a historically black church?

How about a commission about how the Russian Collusion hoax spread so rapidly and perpetuated for 4+ years? That would be a more worthwhile deep dive than a witch hunt about the few hundred thugs that wrongly broke into the Capitol building.
