And by that I mean, you aren't really voting for McCain because he's been too questionable on too many important issues; you're pulling the lever next to the "R" in November because Palin has her solid policy and street cred.
-
This pick certainly has me reenergized and excited about Nov.

And my opinion of McCain goes up because he picked her.

I cant stand McCain and have said all along I will not vote for him. Palin on the other hand is a lot like what I am looking for. I do not know what her position on immigration is. She has a long history of disagreeing with party policy so maybe she will let McCain know how wrong he is on immigration. Mostly I just dont know yet. If I were to vote right now I would vote Libertarian. But I have been a registered Independent for many years so that might change.

Indeed.
She'll serve as a rightist center of gravity. Because she will have his ear to ward off anything too bone-headed and because she is the heir-apparent for 2012/2016 he will be reluctant to undermine her conservative credentials. She makes me feel safer about McCain.
PALIN (and some other guy) '08!
-
They got mine. (As if there ever was any doubt.)
-
I'm voting for Palin. I never vote for Senators since Dole. Senators, a bunch of whiny little crybabies.
-
It means I can trust McCain's executive judgment better than I thought. Inspired pick. I'm happier to vote for the ticket today than I was yesterday.
-
I'll admit it, she's at least got me strongly considering it. I can't stand McCain, but with her on the ticket, it's different.
During the convention I'll tune in to watch her speak. I could care less about watching McCain speak.
.
-
I gotta admit, I'm a little more happy about the McCain ticket. McCain really picked a good one, not just for tactical reasons (Palin being a woman of course, taking away the Hillary vote from Osama), but she (from what I've read) is a down to Earth conservative and government reformer. She's a good pick for co-pilot of America.

I held my nose and voted for Bush last election. I have regretted it ever since.
"Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me."
I cant stand McCain. I do like Palin. I just dont think that is enuff to get me to vote for McCain.

McCain has done a lot of things right lately but because he has betrayed his own party so much in the past, (And for what? A tiny bit of media praise!) that anything less than inspired Conservatism and I just put him back in the treacherous column.
Trust but verify, verify, verify and then verify again.
McCain has a whole hell of a lot to make up for and six weeks of doing things right doesn't make up for years and years of treachery.
But I don't have to vote for him, I can vote for this very accomplished conservative.
-
My opinion is John McCain has, at his advanced age, finally had his eyes opened. It took this run as the actual Republican candidate for president to make him understand who his friends are (pardon the grammar).
John McCain has spent years looking through the Primrose Lens of liberal media adulation. That special attention took him on paths he never thought he could walk. Then he became the enemy of the liberal media and their jackhammers came out to chunk-up his smooth path. John McCain does not take a double-cross lightly.
We have a candidate ready for bear. His VP pick demonstrates that. John McCain is ready to embrace a normal conservative agenda and win this race if for no other reason than to stick it up the media's ass.
Just my opinion.

I think also if ya wanna add to it, it was the media that loved him so damn much when he was fighting the GOP coming back to bite him in the ass hard with him running for president against the Obamessiah. Think he learned a lesson there.

Okay, so he sold out his own party and values when he got media love and now that the media have turned on him, he's learned his lesson? What is the essence of Juan McCainez? Does he believe in anything? Other than he should have been elected President in 2000? And that he should be elected President now?
I need more than six weeks of solid decision making. Who is Juan at his core? What does he believe? It seems to me his core philosophy is "whatever it takes to fool the base to win." Which makes me wonder which Juan we will get after he takes the oath.
His running mate has a solid record I like her. I like to be able to look back more than six weeks. Plus she's not a senator. Always a plus in my book.

What is McCains stance on immigration? Has it changed since he picked Palin?
People, we have to keep our eye on the ball here. There is no bigger or more important issue to keep on the forefront. The economy, terrorism, gas prices...they all pale in comparison to the horrific damage being done to our great country by open borders. And John McCain supports open borders every bit as much as Bush does. PLEASE dont forget that.
-
I'm voting against socialism first and foremost.
I expect only less liberal Supreme Court judges out of McCain and if I get better than that then its gravy.
I love Palin in the veep role as it slingshots her into a historic position and for the right reasons.
Bring in Bobby Jindal after her and I really see hope that the GOP can turn themselves around and become conservatives again and lead our country to an even brighter future.
Corny ? Maybe but a boy has to be able to dream.

So I have two choices....and I should punish McCain by voting for that absolutely horrible Marxist pig-person just because McCain may not be what I want on immigration? I think not.
It's too late now to worry about illegal immigration in this election season. McCain may not be perfect on an issue or two, but we KNOW the other guy is poison to America on EVERY issue.
Yeah, you stick by your principles. I'll stick with the best chance I have of getting three more Supreme Court justices who respect the design of this nation.
I have a chance with McCain. I have NO CHANCE with Dumbo Ears. See you at the polls.

Yeah I agree. I am surprised he chose her. I expected him to choose another RINO.

Did you vote for Bush? If so how do you feel about that vote now? I voted fo him, twice! And I am embarassed and ashamed that I did. Would Kerry have been worse? Of course! But just saying "My guy sucks slightly less than your guy sucks" isnt good enough to earn my vote. And damnit those scumbags in DC never will get the message if we keep giving away our votes due to fear.

I've always seen it as a choice between deadly poison and slightly less deadly poison.
By all means, vote for Juan in the fall if that is okay with you but hold his feet to the fire. Demand things from him. Don't just say, "oh he's been a solid Republican for six weeks, he must have learned his lesson."
I say, "Good job the last six weeks Juan, and the Palin selection is truly inspired. But I expect more more."
While he has done a fantastic job for nearly seven weeks, it doesn't erase years and years treachery. And years. Way before 2000 he was an treacherous idiot.
-
I was already prepared to hold my nose and vote for McCain. With Palin in tow, maybe I can now enter the voting booth breathing through at least one nostril.
I'm still learning about her but I really like what I have seen so far.

How noble. I take it you don't vote? That may be a good thing.
Like it or not, dude, you are living in a crossroad. There are two, possible three, Supreme Court justices who have been trying to outlive this Bush administration and have no chance of waiting out the next administration.
I have watched you make some rather unusual decisions, reflected on various boards, but your support of Barak Obama, by withholding support for John McCain, is more than I can understand from a man of your life experience.

I am an Independent. Have been for years. I usually vote Republican and I did in the last 2 presidential elections. So no, I wont vote for Obama. Hes a socialist thru and thru.
But i wont buy into the thinking that if I dont vote for McCain I am voting for Obama.
If we dont make the politicians feel the pain they deserve for supporting policies the voters dont they will never change.
Let me ask you this...how close do you live to ground zero of the Mexican invasion? I DO live at ground zero. Will you wait till it hits your own neighborhood before you understand how horrific it is?

If I thought we had half a chance of holding McCains feet to the fire to make the right decisions I would vote for him in a second. I am so gun shy from the way Bush has betrayed us that I am not so willing to take a chance again.
Yes this picking of Palin is a very positive thing. But is it enuff?
-
Most definitely, I was going to vote for McCain, but now I can do it without reservation and qualm. :-)
That being said, I look at Palin's beautiful family and the ugliness that is liberalism and I pray those children will hold their heads high and stare down any asshat who comes after their mother or God forbid their little brother. Unfortunately I can see it right now, they will gun for the baby... despicable and disgusting worthless bags of water.

That makes sense only if you intend to vote for some third party. Of course, you do have the reality of the electoral vote to cushion your self-righteous decisions.
I do not think, especially now, that you are the arbitrator or decider of who has "lazy thinking". Your lackluster judgement on certain issues has been well documented elsewhere.
I will not respond to you on this issue anymore. I am disappointed and somewhat surprised, but I still care about you as a poster. You have other things to offer here, but you seem to be very blind to this important issue.

I was over at DU earlier tonite and yes, you are correct. They are already in the trash her family mode. Some of them said death for her down syndrome child would be the more compassionate choice. Those scumbags scare me. A couple of DUers made a valiant effort at stopping others but it was like trying to hold back the tide with your hands.

You live too far from our southern border to really get it. Eventually the mexican invasion will be in your own neighborhood and then you will.

I'm gonna call BS on that one. You don't have to live on the border to understand the massive problems that the influx of illegal immigrants is causing this country.

I have lived in this same house for 23 years. My children all grew up here. They all went to the same schools. When we first moved in it was a very nice middle class neighborhood. I was proud to have friends and family over. Today I have to stop and pick up the trash my neighbors throw from their house and cars into the street and my yard. Every single day I pick their trash up out of my yard. They speak no english so trying to explain it to them is useless. This is not the first time i have been thru this. it is not the 5th or 10th time either.
Their yard looks like what you would see in Tijuana. If you walk up and down my street it is like a cancer growing everywhere.
You people that live up north just do not get it.
I guess this cancer will have to be next door to you before you really understand. But guess what...by then it is too damned late.
-

BULLSHIT!

Really? Just read peoples lame responses to it and you should get it that they do not. By the way how far do you live from the border? I live about 100 miles north of the border.

You're making a lot of assumptions there.
That's messed up thinking and I think you are smart enough to realize that. It surely doesn't take me living among a whole pile of them to recognize the economic drain to our health system, education, legal.... you name it.
-
You people that live up north just do not get it.
BULLSHIT!
Isnt it the libs that yell and scream like that to avoid facing an issue? Just saying....
You have an intellectually dishonest argument.....

If I thought we had half a chance of holding McCains feet to the fire to make the right decisions I would vote for him in a second. I am so gun shy from the way Bush has betrayed us that I am not so willing to take a chance again.
Yes this picking of Palin is a very positive thing. But is it enuff?
hey.... you must know by now that you won't agree on every issue with any candidate. I hope we can trust McCain on his nomination of SC justices, I know we can trust McCain on foreign policy, and I pray he will get his act together on domestic issues.

His own state is being devastated by illegal immigration and he is still at the border with open arms for those criminals. I was in Arizona last weekend. i saw it first hand!!!
Let me ask you this...how many hundreds of illegals do you have at every hardware store in your city? Pissing in the streets, Shitting in the bushes. Harassing our children on their way to school. I see this every day.

Finally something we can agree on. :lmao:

I'm gonna call BS on that one. You don't have to live on the border to understand the massive problems that the influx of illegal immigrants is causing this country.
Really? Just read peoples lame responses to it and you should get it that they do not. By the way how far do you live from the border? I live about 100 miles north of the border.
Who have you seen here defending illegal immigration?
It doesn't matter how far you personally live from the border. To state that those that don't live in your neighborhood "don't get it" is patently untrue. We may not see it as up close and personal as you do, but to claim that we "don't get it" is rather insulting to our intelligence.
I was one of those calling McCain's office and writing letters to him expressing my anger over his attempt at amnesty granting. So don't tell me I don't get it.
-
DH, I have to ask, are you reporting the violations of which you speak? Are there code enforcement people that are laying down on the job?
Are there likeminded neighbors who can join you in cleaning up the place via government pressure? Can you sue? (the violators or the government)

What it really all comes down to is that you can only pump so much poison into a body before it starts to die. A healthy immune system cando a lot. But eventually it will be overwhelmed. We had an illegal slam into a school bus and killed 4 kids in Cottonwood, MN last spring. It was heartbreaking and yet I would have the same feeling about illegal immigration if that or similar events in MN never happened. Minnesota nice brings us sanctuary cities such as Minneapolis and St. Paul.... I am PISSED.
I know that you are flooded in your town 100 mis north of the border. I don't think they have introduced any meaningful legislation to combat illegal immigration. The only way to combat it is starve them out.... no jobs, no illegals.

If we say a thing we are shouted down as racists. That happenes to me on a very regular basis. When i ask how a legal descriptor such as the term 'illegal' can be racial I get no answer.
Cops are not even allowed to ask the immigration status of criminals here.
The last family next door was also illegals. They had a half dozen pit bulls. The mail man refused to deliver because the pit bulls would try to jump over the chain link fence at him. So they put a mailbox in the corner of MY yard without even asking. Now when I pick up the trash every nite I stuff it in their mailbox. :-)

Totally agree. I would lead the CEO's of companies using illegals off in hand cuffs if it would get the illegals to self deport.
Combat illegal immigration? The democrats are pushing to allow illegals to VOTE in our elections!!! I saw that barely defested on the ballot of the city I work in 2 years ago. It came damned close to passing in San Francisco last year. Well, ok, maybe they deserve that.

I don't think anyone doubts you when you say you are on the front lines in this battle.
But the more I learn about the candidates the more I wonder if both tickets are not upsidedown.
McCain will put better people on the court than Obama and this is a battle so hot it may be the courts who make the final choice on any given number of issues related to illegals. You know both major parties are afraid to touch this issue with a ten foot pole. McCain may just leave us with a POTUS in Palin who will make even better choices and as early as 2012. You ought to look at that before you send the message to the R's (as lame as they have been) that they need to do more.
-
I'll tell you...as, I "think", a pretty prolific poster here, I'm NOW voting FOR McCain, as opposed to voting against Obama. I'm energized now.
I have a TON of experience with Alaska and her politics. Many on here know that, some don't. I've been there a LOT, and no, I don't mean a 5-day vacation.
Docstew is also one that knows Alaska politics. I met him in Fairbanks before he PCS'd to Bragg. He was there with the 172d ID (Stryker), now the 1-25th ID. He was stationed at Ft. Wainwright.
This is a good pick. DAMN good pick. Politically? McCain can't go wrong with this.

Uh, wrong answer, DH. I used to live in/near areas in SoCal that were just as infested with illegals as anyplace you've lived (Santa Ana, anyone?) and to say you're the only one who understands is, quite frankly, full of themselves.
I left CA for the relatively low illegal population of NH for several reasons, but one thing I've found is this: while you'd like to blame the feds for everything about the illegal situation, they're only part of the problem. The STATES also have an obligation not to make things easy for illegals should they manage to cross the border. CA, OTOH, has rolled out the welcome mat at the cost of legal citizens and legal immigrants, and the dipshit voters there simply keep voting in the same socialists every two years.
Look at states like AZ, which while it does have a significant illegal problem, is taking steps to resolve it at the state level (despite Governor Napolitano's impedance). Ditto Oklahoma, Texas, and a number of other areas. Sure the ACLU might piss and moan about the "legality" of a few cities here and there, but when THOUSANDS of cites/towns/states start doing the same, their arguements will become useless. The reason NH has relatively few illegals is that we don't dole out welfare and other bennies like they're penny candy out here. Yet right across the border in Mass, there are sanctuary cities, "social programs" that guarantee more illegals by the truckload, and more bullshit, sadly some of which carries across the border into my fair state.
So while the feds are responsible for securing the borders (and I'll admit they've done a piss-poor job of it) it's up to the STATES to keep up the pressure once they are here. Bitching about illegals in CA when McCain doesn't control the idiots in Sacramento is counter-productive.
-
What is McCains stance on immigration? Has it changed since he picked Palin?
People, we have to keep our eye on the ball here. There is no bigger or more important issue to keep on the forefront. The economy, terrorism, gas prices...they all pale in comparison to the horrific damage being done to our great country by open borders. And John McCain supports open borders every bit as much as Bush does. PLEASE dont forget that.
DUH!!!! I don't know his position on any issue. I do know that when he finally takes a stance on a issue, it will be an 180 degree viewpoint from mine.

I used to to live off Coronado Ave in Imperial Beach CA..................if you are 100 miles north of the border, guessing somewhere near LA......................you wouldn't have a clue then about the illegals as you are too far away. I used to watch em mass up on the TJ river.........................I've seen running down the middle of I5, I805, I905, I15, I8...............yeah I've seen em and know the problem.
You probably shouldn't make the assumptions about people and their locations............I'm in NC now and I can assure you that we have a large Illegal problem.

For those who love Palin but are not going to vote for McCain based on some issues.
If McCain doesn't win, Palin's national career is over. McCain/Palin in '08 leads to Palin/{some guy} in 2012. CW states that McCain is a one term president. That means that the '12 Republican choice for President is Palin, but only if McCain wins. I am not thrilled about McCain, but voting for him so we can get a President Palin is one thing that I can support.

Yes... it's time to look at the big picture. Of course we also have Jindal incubating in Rove's lab as well. I love a plan that comes together. :-)

So what do you plan to do, Dark Halo? Will you be voting for Obama or just abstaining from voting for president?
I am an Independent. Have been for years. I usually vote Republican and I did in the last 2 presidential elections. So no, I wont vote for Obama. Hes a socialist thru and thru.
But i wont buy into the thinking that if I dont vote for McCain I am voting for Obama.
If we dont make the politicians feel the pain they deserve for supporting policies the voters dont they will never change.
Let me ask you this...how close do you live to ground zero of the Mexican invasion? I DO live at ground zero. Will you wait till it hits your own neighborhood before you understand how horrific it is?
Jend lives in Arizona, Halo, so that point it moot. I have lived there as well. I do think McCain is far more moderate on immigration then I'd like so I know what you are saying, and that like both myself and Jend, you have experience from living in a state inundated with immigration issues.
Problem though is that Obama would probably love to develop a whole host of other programs to not only help, but welcome illegals. He's a socialist.
I don't know the right answer, but I won't vote for a socialist or help one get elected by refraining from voting.

Hi5 my friend. They will indeed go for what they think is a 'weakness'. Some people may understand the soft hearts when you have a child with special needs and maybe even some of the guilt wondering if there was anything you could have done. I expect some on the left to fully exploit that sadly.

You'd think as the supposed defenders of choice, they'd applaud this woman's CHOICE to carry her child full term. You'd also think given their constant wringing of hand over even one Iraqi child's life that they'd understand the humanity in such a choice. There seems to be no room for humane judgement in politics.

and sure, McCain ain't exactly anyone's idea of a conservative, but is that reason enough to hand the reigns to the socialist Obama ? wse've got to get used to the idea that you will never get everything you want in a president. Reagan was really good but surrendering all that dem spending wasa not the best idea. I realize he had to have som egive and take though so I look at the bigger picture.
I sure as hell want a President Palin in 2012 and President Jindal in 2020. President McCain is step one in that process.

I am leaving California, where I was born and raised. The latest round of non-budget passage and the ideas being floated to raise taxes rather than not underwite illegals.
Good luck in replacing the taxes I pay from my 6-figure income and NO impact on the infrastructure (no kids, 10K miles each on my 2001 and 2002 purchase cars). It will take a lot of families to make up for the loss of my income alone, since they will probably use the infrastructure.
Your hussein vote will the same effect nationally. Companies will vote with their feet rather than pay the Socialist taxes he wants.

The auto companies are moving down south in droves. VW decided to put their plant in Chattanooga and Nissan moved their US headquarters over here. I'm 20 minutes from their new building.

I certainly hope not, but a non-vote for McCain is essentially the same as a vote for Obama. I think DH has some valid points....but there is oh so much riding on this election to hand it over to Obama because you want to make a point. I believe a strategy that works is one of incremental change to turn things around.....it's the the same approach you use to slow-boil frogs. :-)

Is Hotairwolfy a closit Ron Paul voter ?

It means I can trust McCain's executive judgment better than I thought. Inspired pick. I'm happier to vote for the ticket today than I was yesterday.
I held my nose and voted for Bush last election. I have regretted it ever since.
"Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me."
I cant stand McCain. I do like Palin. I just dont think that is enuff to get me to vote for McCain.
So you are voting for uh-bam-uh?
Great move.

A valid point that could be hidden with a wool cap maybe. I have no desire to validate any point which is geared to defeat John McCain. We are in the Reality Circle now. It's either McCain or Obama and there is no third choice. One or the other will be the president of the United States come noontime EST January 20, 2009.
Given the upcoming monumental changes on the Supreme Court, the ongoing/increasing muslim invasion, the hard push for Marxist Medical Intrusion, and the radical homosexual agenda, there is no excuse for a supposed intelligent adult to be considering giving the executive branch to the likes of Obama Hussein

They are saying Sarah Palins husband is a Tool of Big Oil (BP) ? I thought he was a Snowmobile Racer ??

If I thought we had half a chance of holding McCains feet to the fire to make the right decisions I would vote for him in a second. I am so gun shy from the way Bush has betrayed us that I am not so willing to take a chance again.
Yes this picking of Palin is a very positive thing. But is it enuff?
hey.... you must know by now that you won't agree on every issue with any candidate. I hope we can trust McCain on his nomination of SC justices, I know we can trust McCain on foreign policy, and I pray he will get his act together on domestic issues.
You live too far from our southern border to really get it. Eventually the mexican invasion will be in your own neighborhood and then you will.
I live closer to the border than you do and I'm voting for McCain. A vote for third party is a vote for Obama....like it or not it is. You can drive right down the street and pick up any mexican in the old Home Depot parking lot to do work for you at any given moment. We have "little mexico's" all around. I am living among them and while I'm pissed off that they are illegal, they literally work their asses off...something that few americans actually do. That comment was not an excuse for illegal immigration, it was just an observation.
While I do find illegal immigration a great concern, I think Supreme Court Judges are more important at the moment. I'll take my bets with McCain, you take your chances with your third party candidate that has no chance in hell of winning and basically hand your vote to Obama.

It is a non-argument, anyway. McCain will cobble something together that ends up being pretty much the current status quo -- not great but they are starting to self-deport. hussein will flat out grant unfettered amnesty (all those potential VOTERS!). Once again dh cuts of his nose despite his face.

illegal immigration knows no geographic localities. I live on the east coast, and we have had sweeps that have racked up a couple of hundred illegals. my folks live in southern mississippi, and they arrested 600 illegals there last week.
I am sure it is worse in socal, but it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist everywhere else. and it also means that folks in minnesota fully understand the issue.

I refuse to buy into your short sighted view that not voting for McCain is a vote for Obama. Thats the sort of lazy thinking we see at DU Pops. I expect better from you.
"Facts" and logic and you are not good friends are you?

I don't believe that one has to live on the "font lines" of the immigration problem to fully appreciate the problem with open-borders. I would say those living on the front lines have more of first hand understanding of all the problems.
The argument that not voting for McCain is the same as voting for BHO isn't valid either. If you don't vote, you just don't vote. It's up to the candidates to convince people to vote for them, not vote against the other. If the vote against the other comes into play with the individual voter, then so be it. But if a fellow conservative tells me he didn't vote for McCain (that he didn't vote at all), I'm not going to jump their case, because quite frankly the guys been a major prick over the years.

I'll take responsibility for my McCain vote if McCain wins and screws it up. But, If BHO or McCain get elected and the non voters feel the urge to complain about either.... they better just STFU. But that's just me. :-)

I hear ya. I too am torn on voting for McPain still, but hopefully his veep pick pushes him in the right direction regarding immigration. But hell, we all know that Obama would open up the floodgates anyway. At least with McCain, he can stand to change his mind (hopefully.)

Unless they say something, you'll never know who voted or didn't vote. I'm certainly not going to inquire of others, it's private. That's why they put curtains on the voting booth, so others can't see what you did or didn't do.
As for me, should BHO get in I'll still fight against the little commie and if McCain gets in and starts bending over to please the Dems/libs, I'll fight against him, too.

Of course it's private, that's why I put the cheesy grin. :-)
Obama is an unacceptable candidate, I wish some of these protest (conservative) voters would realize that. :whatever:

DH and others have certainly said they don't like BHO, and others have said they'll hold their nose and vote for McCain. It seems at least with picking Palin he made some type of overtures. Whether that can overcome his past record of going against conservative principles we'll know in about 2 months.
Aren't you getting ready to have to put up with all the traffic for the RNC? Good luck and I hope you know the backroads real well. :-*

I don't have to cross town. My residence and all my business is on the west side of Minneapolis. Good grief, St. Paul.... I only go there to drink Irish Beer.
