A little background on Gov. Palin:

Quote
Born in Idaho, Palin moved to Alaska with her parents, to Charles and Sally Heath, when she was 3 months old.

She grew up in Wasilla, just outside of Anchorage, and played on the Wasilla state championship girls’ basketball team. She was crowned Miss Wasilla in 1984 and was a runner-up in the Miss Alaska pageant.

Palin studied journalism and political science at the University of Idaho and graduated in 1987. She eloped with her high school boyfriend,  Todd Palin, in 1988 to save money on an expensive wedding. She helped out in her husband’s family commercial fishing business and appeared occasionally as a television sportscaster.

Palin won a seat on the Wasilla City Council in 1992 as a new face and a new voice, and by opposing tax increases. Four years later she was elected mayor at 32 by knocking off a three-term incumbent. At the end of her second term, party leaders encouraged her to enter the 2002 race for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor. Against veteran legislators with far more experience, Palin finished second by fewer than 2,000 votes, making a name for herself in statewide politics. She was elected Alaska’s youngest and first woman governor in 2006.

Sarah and Todd Palin have five children: boys Track, 19, and Trig, 4 months, and daughters Bristol, 17, Willow, 13, and Piper, 7. Track Palin joined the Army last September and will deploy to Iraq on Sept. 11. Palin gave birth to Trig, who has Down syndrome, in April and returned to work three days later.

I wonder how her perceived "lack of experience" is gonna play out through this whole thing now, as that is such a big factor with Obama. McCain kinda threw that card right out of the deck with his VP choice.

Interesting pick indeed, though.

If she has been governor for five minutes that's five minutes more executive experience than Senator Dumbo Ears can claim.

Well she was a real mayor and is a real governor actually running a state and not running for something else.

She has more executive experience than the three of them...Way to go!! I think he made a FABULOUS PICK!!
I was hoping for a female candidate pick.  How stupid does Obama look now?  Turned down a VP pick who took in 18 million votes.  Hopefully, McCain yields in enough of those votes to give him the win!  With this pick..it is not only possible, but probable!  :-)

Excellent pick!!  I can finally muster some enthusiasm for the ticket......I also heard this morning that her husband is part Eskimo (that will s'plode some DUmmie heads), and in the fishing off-season, works in the (oil fields on the north slope (a hated "oil man").  An average working guy to appeal to the union folks......

She is also a lifetime NRA member, and both she and her husband are avid hinters and fishermen......her husband is also three-time winner of the 2000 mile snowmobile race held in Alaska each year.....

I'm stoked!!!

Awesome, awesome, awesome. I'm so jazzed about this.

my mother in law called from Canada to tell us this morning and I immediately got so jazzed about her! I think Obama's comment about her was so small and petty - especially after McCain congratulated him last night on his historic speech.

Palin looks to be a classic conservative and she's going to energize the base - I know I sure am this morning.

Can you imagine Biden trying to snark at this woman?? She looks and sounds pretty tough...

The difference between Sarah Palin and Teh Obamessiah is that teh Obamessiah has - what? - 140 days on the books as the JUNIOR Senator from the state of Illinois.  No important pieces of legislation, no stirring oratories from the well of the Senate chambers and - dispite his claims to the contrary - no keystone positions on important Senate committes.

By contrast, Sarah Palin has been the chief executive for the largest state in the union.  She beat the pants off an Incumbent Republican Governor WITHOUT party support and in spite of being seriously outspent by the Democrat challenger.  Prior to that she chased an incumbent Mayor out of his office on a platform of fighting wasteful spending and reducing property taxes.  She's been the head of Alaska's Ethics commission as well.

Add to all this that she has a son who's a soldier, another - the youngest of her 5 children - with Downs Syndrome (and probably still brighter than Obama bin Biden combined), and I see why the DUmmies are filling their britches.  They can't attack her position on abortion, on the military or on ethics in government without getting their heads handed to them on a ****in' purple cushion.

But one big thing in her favor is her Executive-branch experience, something neither Obama nor Biden have.

And as you have seen from Cujo (at SCC), the libs are basically shitting themselves right now.  I saw Beckel this morning and the mere mention of Palin sent him into the doldrums.  It's true--the Dems got nothing on her, no matter how they try to tie her to Stevens, etc. (and yes, they're already trying).

Also Fox said she is an avid sportswoman who loves to hunt and fish, and she is a lifetime NRA member.
Cool.  A V.P. with better aim than Cheney.   :fuelfire:

I don't know what she sounds like, but I'll bet she doesn't stutter and stammer if she doesn't have a teleprompter glued to her ass.

I wonder if anyone will take the time to point out that she's on an EST 2000.

That weapon is only dangerous to the computer generated Krasnovians on a large projection screen in front of her.

Well, its STILL bad enough to get her expelled from public school.

I think of the pic as a great metaphor for what has just been done to The Lord Messiah's momentum.    :-) :cheersmate:

If you ever get a chance...take it.  You can hook every weapon we have up on it...from a 9mm to Mr. Browning's favorite toy...even an AT-4.

My favorite was the check point shoot don't shoot program.

I did it for Sgt's Time right after I got back from Iraq.

Just saw a CNBC interview with Gov. Palin.  Must have been done in the last week, because she did mention OB and Biden.  Any way it was mainly about Alaska and their oil and gas reserves.

Note to Biden;  when the two of you VP candidates debate - don't ask about the gas and oil topic.  She wipe the floor with your butt.  If the subject comes up, fake a cough, go to the toilet - something -  but get the hell out of the room.

Don't know yet about anything else, but the women knows that subject.

I'm delighted !

And somethign tells me that Romney will bob up as a dept secretary.

I hope McCain cleans house after Bush left most of Clinton's appointees in place.  The State Dept needs an enema.

i had forgotten that.. yeah, McCain needs to sweep everybody out.

let's start with Pelosi and work on down the list...  :cheersmate:

Speaking of Skeletor, How much do you want to bet someones knickers are all knotted up over the fact she may soon no longer be the most powerfull woman in the halls of Congress?

oh, i'll take that bet.. i can imagine that Nancy's handlers are telling her to keep quiet over Palin lest she undo all her 'it takes a woman to clean the House' crapolla she's been saying for years.

Chris, Drudge has all the stuff up on his homepage right now... she sounds and acts like a firecracker. This woman takes no crap from anyone and it comes thru in her very classy demeanor.

I had some neighbors at my house last night and two of the libs were just absolutely knocked out by her speech. The other libs were terrified  :-)

I'm telling ya.. even the libs here in our neighborhood are impressed with her. but they arent moonbats, per se, just old school Dems who grew up not being exposed to anything conservative on the west coast.

They know a good pick when they see one.. and I give them kudos for being so common sense about Palin. I have no real idea if they will vote for her but they sure seem to be taken with her..

being that the pipeline is a such a huge part of their economy, yeah, Biden will be out of his depth before he even walks on stage.

But I bet she said it like her jaws were wired shut.

With all the gritting and grinding of teeth while smiling that Hillary has had to do lately........... wonder what her dental bill is going to cost us?

I watched Palin speak today. NO teleprompter, just the typical speech notes (an outline). Good eye contact with her audience. She never ONCE leaned on the podium. All in all, she was by the book on public speaking. I was truly impressed. She needs to drop the "18,000 cracks in the ceiling" bit, IMO. Once was good, twice was OK, to keep repeating it will get tiresome.

I agree, that line will make her nomination appear disingenuous.

I think her message that America is first, ahead of special interests is a good one - that should be the McCain/Palin mantra from now until Nov 4th.

And of course, it will need to be implemented when they take office.  :whatever:

Quote
Reporter: MR. McCain, how do you respond to charges that Palin has no experience?
McCain: If Obama had as much experience as Ms. Palin, he’d be ready for the VP slot, too.
