How dare these states open up businesses and allow people to go and support themselves? By golly, if these states don't have a dramatic increase in deaths, then it means all these lockdowns were just nonsense and destroyed the economy for nothing! Now people will be expected to pay rent and stuff again....

We Have Biden and Team doing great by getting enough vaccine doses. Granted getting it into the arms is still a little troubling. We have Dr. Fauci explaining once all adults get the vaccine we will achieve herd immunity and life will return to "normal" by end of the year.
So instead of encouraging Citizens to be patient follow the rules a little longer what does Texas Mississippi and Connecticut do? I open up no mask wearing. Have we freaking forgotten not only do we have the Mother Covid strain running around but we got the offsprings of the virus (the mutations Britain, Brazil South Africa and California) running around.

So we have states opening up before a good majority of people are vaccinated and maybe I am wrong but no doubt super spreader will happen so lets say 50 people get the virus during spring break and go back to their states and infect 5 people before finding out they have it. look at how many people have to wait 90 days to get the vaccine.

9. It's really quite simple,
They want Biden to fail. If that means Texans and Floridians die so be it. The feds should lock those states down with no interstate travel to preserve the gains we have made against Covid. I hope these red states pay a heavy price for their governor's stupidity

:rotf: While true - that is what my doctor advised me - does LPC noob PA_jen understand that people who have recovered from Covid have natural immunity that will probably last for ... well ... we don't know how long, other than more than a year. :rotf: Because the virus hasn't been circulating in the US long enough for us to know. :rotf:

My wife's doctor told her that they have no idea how long, or even if, contracting the Kung-flu provides any immunity. She had to get tested a while back to go back to work after experiencing similar symptoms, she likely had it very early on, early enough in that they weren't testing everybody due to lack of reliable tests. Despite multiple staff and students in her building testing positive, and several others, including my wife, experiencing similar symptoms but testing negative, she hasn't officially had it.
During that test, she asked the doctor if there was any way to tell if she had previously been carrying the China virus, and was told whether antibodies are still present and for how long varies from person to person greatly. That was back in September, October, I believe. The doctor said then that all the variables and randomness of the virus were going to make vaccines very difficult to develop.
That randomness is why it's such a great political weapon. Locked down states and countries have seen similar or worse spreads than more open ones. Old people with numerous health issues get it and come out with no problems. Young, healthy people get it and drop dead. Think back to the Keaton/Nicholson Batman movie, and the news anchors getting more and more disheveled as they didn't know what products contained the Joker poison. There are people in power who see this as an opportunity to expand that power, and blind morons who are too easily scared and lack basic logic skills who just want to be taken care of, regardless of the cost.

1. Yes, recovering creates antibodies, which provide immunity (immunity = the person's immune system will quickly defeat subsequent exposures). There may be some variation in the degree of immunity related to the severity of the original infection (much as with chicken pox).
2. There are quite a few FDA-approved tests that can tell whether a person has antibodies to SARS-CoV-2. I don't know, at present, whether any can discern the concentration of antibodies.
3. The reason we do not know how long natural and vaccination immunities last is that SARS-CoV-2 has only been in circulation in the US a bit over a year (there is evidence from antibodies being found in blood from December 2019 blood drives that it may have been brought into the US in November). The people infected or vaccinated (Phase 1 test participants) early still have significant antibody concentrations is known.
4. "Variants" borders on Panic Porn. Viruses mutate readily. If one goes to an extreme level of detail, there are probably millions or billions of sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub- ... -sub-sub-sub-sub-variants "out there". What is known is that of the five vaccines the US government worked with, Dynavax's (not yet approved), Johnson & Johnson's, Moderna's, and Pfizer's are still effective against the major known variants. AstraZeneca's, apparently, is not effective in preventing infections against the "South African" variant (it may, however, be effective in reducing serious and severe infections).
5. Because of the mRNA technology Moderna uses, they had their vaccine designed in less than a week after the DNA sequence of the SARS-CoV-2 was leaked from China. Moderna began Phase 1 (i.e., human paricipants) testing in mid March. That Phase 1 testing of Pfizer's vaccine began in late April suggests to me that BioNTech also was able to develop their mRNA vaccine similarly quickly. AstraZeneca also began Phase 1 testing in late April. I could post similar timeline info for Dynavax and J & J, but the point is that effective vaccines were actually developed and gotten into test very quickly.
