There was one Covid case yesterday here in New Zealand, not far north of Auckland. The patient was a recent returnee from Europe, had finished her 14-day managed isolation (MIQ) period, & sent back home, but somehow presented symptoms 5 days after. How do I know all of this?

Because yesterday at 4pm the NZ government Covid task force held a national press conference about this case. Let me repeat, yesterday there was a NATIONAL press conference about THIS ONE CASE.

Since her positive test, her husband has been tested (negative). All her close contacts have been identified and tested. All those who had been in the same MIQ hotel during the same period have been contacted for tests and told to self isolate while awaiting results.

The index patient has been scrupulously recording all of her movements since leaving MIQ facility. How? It’s easy. We’ve been doing the exact same thing. There’s a QR code everywhere that you can scan on your phone, plus a Bluetooth capacity that can even do it automatically.

So, everyone who has recorded themselves visiting the same places during the same period as this patient has now been informed that they may have been exposed. You can also check on the Covid site to see a detailed listing of her movements since she left managed facilities.

All of this. From one covid case in the community.
DNA typing is underway to identify the exact strain of this virus to locate precisely where she had acquired it. CCTV footage from during her managed isolation period are being investigated to try to find any potential failure in the system to allow this case to get out.

Yes, all of this, from one covid case here in New Zealand.

Meanwhile, 172K new cases yesterday back home in the US.
And some Karens (and Bobs) are still screaming in Trader Joe’s about how requiring a 😷 is oppression. Good luck contact tracing them.

😢
Clarification:

There’s a total of 79 Covid cases currently in NZ, but there’s only one “in the community”, in the wild you can say. The rest are caught at the border in Managed Isolation/Quarantine in government-controlled facilities & posing little to no risk to the community

And yet, somehow I get the feeling you are all for open borders for the US.  Am I right?

Governor Cuomo is calling for opening up New York. Mayor Lori Deadface of Chicago is calling for bars and restaurants to reopen. People will die, but Biden's economy needs help.

I want it all opened and have from the beginning.  Those who don't want to venture out can stay home and the rest can live as they see fit.  It just amazes me how fast they are all turning around now that the election is over.  I figured it would be fast, but damn, this is really fast!  Newsom is opening CA.

Let the liberals explain why it's ok to open now when it wasn't before ... I'll wait.

Slow Joe admitted there is nothing that can be done to change the trajectory of the virus.

Well, that's science!  We all knew that before the election.  A virus is going to do what a virus does.  Now we have how many new strains?  How many of the new strains will the current vaccines provide antibodies for?  SVPete?  Any idea, I know you follow that end of it closer than anyone I know.

Demmiblue was a little short sighted about one thing.  A decent percentage of people who work for a living can't afford smart phones or choose to spend their hard earned money on more practical items.   Now if I was on the public dole I'm sure I would have the top of the line phone.  And I've seen it in church meals for the needy. I was with somebody walking through and she said 3 of the phones she saw cost close to $1,000.00.  This is the flaw with Covid relief checks.  Often times the people who could use it most spend it on frivolous things.  Same with tax returns.  Anybody on CC who has a nice phone that you purchased with your own means, please do not take offense to my comments.

Us: do you still have J3s?
ATT: yea, we have a big box of them out back, no cost
Us: that'll be fine

No offense taken by me.  I don't care what anyone has as long as they paid for it with the fruit of their own labor.  If you're on the government teat ... yeah, I think I should get some say in that.

We usually get new phones about once every 4-6 years, depending on how long the old ones last.  The last phone I had stopped letting you hear through the handset and you had to talk with everyone on speaker.  I did that for about 2 years, then the apps quit updating and it was freezing up, that lasted about a year then I got a new one.  I went from an iPhone 3 to a 6 to an 11.

Don't worry.  Beijing biden has reinstated travel restrictions (aren't those racist and xenophobic?) so the southern border should be secure, right?

Quote
Washington (CNN)President Joe Biden on Monday will reinstate the Covid-19 travel restrictions on non-US citizens who have been in Brazil, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and much of Europe, a White House official confirmed to CNN.

Biden will also extend the restrictions to travelers who have recently been to South Africa, the official said.

I'm sure he didn't put any restrictions on travel from the muslim countries he recently re-opened travel to as a poke in the eye to President Trump.

It’s definitely going to be interesting to see how he handles the caravans that are currently heading this way from Central America.

No deportations in the first 100 days.  After that loosening up requirements for asylum and getting into the country "legally." In other words he's putting out the Welcome mat for them to come into the country.  This of course will flood the low end labor market, making it harder for poor American citizens to get a job.

Will they be screened for any disease?  If positive, who pays for treatment and tracing?

Hmmmmm. Us?

So a resident of one of the most strictly isolating countries in the world followed those strict guidelines to a "T" and still became Covid positive afterward while going about her ordinary business?

The most strictly isolating country's guidelines allowed her to be out and about, infectious, but ::)  ::)  ::) by DUmmieLogic ::)  ::)  ::) Trump was responsible for every Covid case and death in America.
