DALLAS — When deep fried s'mores become a plausibly obtainable snack option, the State Fair of Texas must be approaching.
The calorie-crammed twist to the campfire favorite was among eight finalists announced Wednesday in the Big Tex Choice Awards that honor the tastiest fried fare of the Texas fair.
The State Fair of Texas begins Sept. 26 and runs through Oct. 19. The winner will be announced Monday.
Other competitors are a fried banana split, fried chocolate truffles, a fried grilled cheese sandwich and fried Jelly Bellys.
Also making the cut are chicken-fried bacon strips and chocolate-covered strawberry waffle balls, served on a stick and obligatorily deep-fried.

The chicken-fried bacon strips got my attention when I heard it on the local news this morning! :lmao:

A friend of ours came up with the fried avacado last year. He made a b-u-n-c-h of money (most of us could retire on the amount). I didn't like the texture or the taste.
I'm working on deep-fried Boston Creme Pie on a stick for next year's fair.

I saw a recipe for bacon-wrapped french toast. :yum:

Come on, share it. Don't keep it to yourself. Do you cook the french toast first then wrap and cook the bacon, or is it a one shot deal?

There's a tasty snack in there, I'd cut out on the construction work and go straight for the toasty, bacony goodness. :-)
