"There are Trump signs here. That's not right"

As some on this board know, I am the immediate past president and one of the founders of a Democratic Women's Club of Florida chapter in my small red county. My phone number is still listed as the one to call with questions when we send out our meeting notices.

Last Friday, our meeting notice made it to the front page of the local paper(!) and we got a lot of calls and emails as a result.

Earlier today, I got a call from an elderly woman who lives in a mobile home park who wanted to know where she could get some Biden lawn signs for her yard. She's seen several Trump signs in her neighborhood and "that's not right."

She went on to say that she's a big Biden supporter and "we need to get Trump out of the White House." We commiserated for a while; living here, it's always nice to talk to a like-minded person.

She doesn't drive and is not on the internet. She was hoping someone could drop off some signs to her.

The local Democratic party is fortunate to have a sign maker among its membership. He makes loads of signs and offers them free of charge.

Well, I emailed some of the party heads and our Women's club leadership. I've already had 3 people say they'll bring her signs this week.

It's a small thing, but here in Red Florida, it means a lot.

28. She may vote by mail.

For her it makes sense, for people who have transportation, it doesn’t make sense.

I just voted by mail for the Florida Primary. I chose to not have a ballot sent for the General, I will in person early vote, because I know that vote will get tabulated.

6. I remember in the good old days, that means when Obama was running for president, and I had purchased a number of yard signs.

I was taking a walk in my little community and I noticed that someone had put the tiniest little Obama sign in their window. Probably got it out of the newspaper.

I found out from another neighbor that this person lived alone, used a wheelchair, and no longer drove. I knew where one of my yard signs was going!

I went over after dark and left it on her back porch. When I took my walk the next day, that very large Obama yard sign was in her window! She never knew who left it there, but I knew it made her happy.

7. Every little bit counts.

At least to show that there are some intrepid thinkers among the red hat fools.

11. I feel her pain. Also in red county in Florida.

Fortunately not too many Trump signs, but plenty of bumper stickers.

12. Lots of flags here

I find them so annoying. I expect bumper stickers and signs, but the flags are truly cult-like. No other president/candidate has had his/her supporters flying those ridiculous flags.

They are all over the place here.

14. Citrus

We moved here in '92. It was a lovely little southern Democrat county that, even then, had loony tune elements.

We've had a good life here, raised our boys who have done well. But the state has changed so much.

Those first years, for example, the kids would have to wear a warm jacket over their Halloween costumes. By the time youngest was going trick or treating (late 90s) he'd be overheated in shorts, a t shirt and a mask.

The politics affected climate change, the educational system (fck you, JEB) and everything else here.

15. It's probably time to put out a sign.

In 2016, the sign had to be replaced about once a week. It will be an interesting metric to see how often they have to be released his time.

20. Yeah, i've only seen one Joe sign

And that’s because it’s on my car. I see Trump signs all over the place and yet I know from talking to people that they are sick to death of rump. But most people I know are afraid to put up anti-Trump signs because his followers are so ugly and mean and would steal or damage property to get rid of any democratic signs.

Who is burning shit down? Vandalizing Churches and homes? Businesses?

It's not Trump supporters.

off by putting Dem signs in her yard during elections. She also loved swearing at them in Italian. She didn't need a translator.

33. Your story could be my own.

I moved to Florida after retirement and chose to settle in Highlands County, so I wouldn't be too far from my widowed mother. Red. VERY RED! So red, in fact, that upon finally locating the Highlands County Democratic Committee, I was elected president at the very first meeting I attended. The vote was 5-0.

So being a democrat in a very red part of Florida is a thankless job, but thank you just the same.  A tip of my hat to you, mcar.  Keep up the good work. After my Mom died I chickened out, sold the house, and moved back to New York where the culture shock wasn't so great. Highlands County was the first - and only - place in America where I saw a John Birch Society billboard. Really. It wasn't difficult to leave the Sunshine State.

35. We move to from a blue state to this red state

How else can you change a red state to blue, without more Democratic voters?

Washington state is not the blue state everyone assumes. Cross the Cascade Mountain range and three quarters of the state is red.
Same with Oregon. It was explained (repeatedly) that money allocated from the state capital always ends up staying on the west side of those states. In Washington, it is like day and night, in political attitude. The republican hate of Obama democrats, was vile.

We came out to see Obama/Biden in Beaver, Pa. before they won. A huge crowd, in a supposedly red county.

What really bothers me here, in Fl., are the police cars, parked at the officers' homes, with huge Trump flags flying. That scares me.

You did a great thing mcar! I love discovering other Biden supporters in my neighborhood. Honestly, I am afraid to put a sign out or a sticker on my car.

37. I hear you

I had Obama stickers but I chickened out with Hillary - and regret it. We're going to put up Biden yard signs this time, because fck them.

And they continue to call conservative facists. They want to shut us up, and not even be subjected to an opinion they are butt hurt by.

Seriously,  has anyone here ever let the existence of a yard sign affect your vote?

No, I just laugh no matter which candidate it is.

No, I just laugh no matter which candidate it is.

I've seen these signs all over central Illinois. Signs don't convince people, but they do let people know they aren't alone.
