And now it's time for: Things You Hide From Your Family...
When my kids were little, I hid things like good scissors so that they were nice and sharp when I needed them. I hid my good cookie scoop. I hid the Super Glue.
They are grown but to this day I still hide glue and electrical tape. I don't need those things very often but when I do, I want them. And it seems if I DON'T hide them, they are taken and gone when I need them.
You?
Ok, I get it ...

1. I used to have to hide rubber bands
because one of my cats would eat them. He passed away recently (RIP, Jeoffry) but I still hide rubber bands.
Ok, that's understandable.

2. I left my job oct. 23, 2018 -- got a buyout
My family still has no idea as I pretended to go to work every day until the pandemic, which now has me “working from home.”
:o
What?!

10. I've surprised even myself!
My former coworkers check in from time to time to see whether I’m still “living the lie.”

14. Why?
It must be hard to keep up a pretense but especially hard to do so for 1.5 years.
Isn't it?

20. Avoiding the way my mom and sister would carry on if they knew
...is worth the stress of carrying the secret.
They’d freak out and freak me out.
After the first year it got a bit easier.
The pandemic has helped a lot.

21. I understand difficult family
Perhaps I should say I hide myself from my family. We lost contact years ago.

1.5 years is nothing. Several of your fellow primitives have foolishly believed themselves to be intelligent for 60 years and longer.

Another cum stain on the back seat of life.

Another DUmmie admitting they are mentally disturbed. Aside from the obvious answer (A DUmmie), who would do something like this and it's not even your spouse. WOW, Just WOW.

I didn't realize that McDonalds burger flippers got buyouts.

Does anyone in that dysfunctional family question why no paychecks are coming in or why it has no health insurance after almost two years?

If it just lives in the basement on a couch they probably forgot it was there

It'd be interesting to know how old this individual is. If they were living with me and not contributing to the expenses and I found out they had been lying about working, they'd be out on their ass pretty damn fast. I'm wondering if this is the real reason he's not spilling his guts.

reminds me of that movie "Falling Down" where Michael Douglas is an unemployed engineer who lives with his mom and was laid off months previously but doesn't want to tell her he is laid off so he gives the illusion of going to work every day until one day when he finally looses it and goes on a rampage.

44. So basically you're lying to them all the time, right?
Do you "pretend" to work from home?

56. Oh, well yeah. Not domineering as much as worriers
And it’s really easy for me to get sucked into their doom and gloom. They’re ignorance is my bliss.
They needn’t worry, but they would.
It’s just easier for all of us.

I wonder if it ever considered finding a new job while pretending to do the old one? What is the endgame here?

Another hilarious hollywood backfire where the right found a sympathetic hero ( not that I would do that) instead of the villain they intended

$20 and a taxi ride home.
Oh wait...

Self-generating irony.
