Anybody else think that "got him!" indicates they would have shot Mr. Brooks even without that tazer
???

Jeezus.... there was almost zero time between when Brooks fired the tazer and when he was shot in the back. In other words, "got him!" wasn't a response to the tazer but just the culmination of the pursuit. It was always the goal of the chase to "get him!"

****ERS.

Almost zero time between when Brooks fired at police officers and the time they responded. You watch the video, the police officer drops the taser he is carrying and draws his service weapon and fires. It happens fast because we train it over and over to draw and engage fast. DUmbasses don't get that the police officer responded exactly as trained.

1. That's what you would say when playing a video game

Makes you wonder how these murderous cops were trained in the use of weapons. Also, it might be interesting to learn if these same murderous cops are video game players.

2. It was a DUI stop

They had his ID and car yet still decided deadly force was necessary to keep him from running away? That's just dumb, unnecessary and bad training-or overt racism.

It was a DUI stop until Brooks resisted, fought the police, physically assaulted both officers, stole a weapon fled and turned and fired at the officers.

5. Rolfe and his partner were likely angry and embarrassed Brooks managed to overpower both of them, wrestle the taser from the cop's hand as he was trying to use it on Brooks during the struggle, and was able to get away from them with the taser in his hand. At that point it became a matter of pride, it was personal, they had to "get him."

One other thing Rolfe told a supervisor after the shooting during a videotaped conversation is very troubling: “As I pursued him, he turned and started firing the Taser at me," adding ”He definitely did shoot it at me at least once." In another report, a police spokesperson stated Rolfe was justified in shooting Brooks because the suspect fired the taser as he was running away, thereby creating an imminent and deadly threat to both officers as he was running away.

Police tasers can only be fired one time, at one target. They have to be reloaded after being fired. If Rolfe was certain Brooks fired the taser "at least once," he must have known the device could not be used against either officer again. If Rolfe knew the taser had been fired "at least once" why did he have to shoot Brooks in the back?

17. He was an imminent and deadly threat because he was a black man. Period.

The skin we walk around in is seen by too many people as a deadly weapon.

if the officer would have been hit with the taser he would have been incapacitated. The officer, if in danger of being so, will use lethal force to protect life and limb. The officer goes down, the officer's weapon goes flying. Brooks, who has shown no problems with assaulting police, recovers the weapon and shoots both officers.

**** Brooks.

6. Here is my guess as to what will happen

All of the cops will receive written reprimands for poor judgement and handling of the situation. The officer who had the Taser stolen from him will probably get suspended (with pay) for a few days. The officer that shot Mr. Brooks will get a couple weeks suspended (with pay). And no charges filed. Too many outs for the cops: 1) resisting arrest (no matter how absurd it may be) 2) stealing a police weapon 3) firing the weapon at the police (assault)

The biggest issue against the cops defense is that they had his car and ID. There wasn't even a need to chase him, just wait for him at his house.

That's not how policing works, DUmbass.

12. Abso-****ing-lutely they would have shot him...

he managed to escape their control and made them look bad. No way their toxic strongman egos would allow him to escape. They had to take him down to save face.

****ers is right.

Anybody else think that they would not have shot Mr. Brooks if he had complied in a peaceful manner to the requests of Law Enforcement, did not assault the officers or resist arrest?

The current Taser X2 carries 2 cartridges.  The second can be fired immediately after the first one is used.

There's no doubt at all that had Brooks complied with the officer's lawful orders and not resisted arrest he would most likely be alive today.

This is correct.

Anyone else think DU-member Goodheart is a magenta-striped chartreuse Uranian?

I've never tried to wrestle with two cops at one time and I sure have hell haven't tried to do it after being roused from a drunk pass out.  When you pass out and get "woken" up, you are fuzzy minded and usually still drunk and uncoordinated.

This guy looked like he was fresh and awake and strong and coordinated. Was this a set up that went wrong for the guy?

It seems that 40 minutes transpired between awakening him and being shot.

DU really IS an echo chamber. Every single one of them jumps to conclusions and always to the WRONG conclusions.
~~how can so many people be so consistently wrong?

He was a threat to the officers because you don't know what he would have done if he managed to fell one of the officers with the taser.
