Texas Supreme Court orders jailed salon owner released

Source: Austin American-Statesman

The Texas Supreme Court on Thursday ordered Dallas County officials to free salon owner Shelley Luther from jail while its nine judges, all Republicans, weigh an appeal challenging her incarceration as improper.

The emergency order directed county officials to release Luther on a personal bond, with no money required, “pending final disposition of her case.”

County officials also were ordered to file a response to the challenge by 4 p.m. Monday, the same day Luther’s weeklong sentence for contempt of court would have ended.

The order came shortly after Gov. Greg Abbott, seeking to end a political firestorm over Luther’s jailing, announced Thursday that local officials will be prohibited from jailing Texans for violating any of his numerous coronavirus-related executive orders.

6. Her excuse was complete garbage

She told the judge she had to remain open to feed her family and keep her staff from starving. But they have food banks in Dallas! I guess it makes more sense to endanger people’s lives than to go to a food bank like everyone else in that situation.

Some people would rather have a job and a paycheck than have to go to a food bank. Idiot.

Also, wouldn't there be more people exposed at a food bank than a salon?

Exactly why smart and sane people know this is a DEMpanic and not a real pandemic.  Illinois said I could go into stores with hundreds of people, but I couldn't go fishing where there may be 5 people per acre.

They drive through these days BUT:

1) Most food banks have people lining up their cars as early as 4 AM and are out of food by 8, serving a small % of people who need it
2) You get what they give you -- it is pre-boxed.  It is not like pre-COVA where you would go though like a store and select what you want/need.

Just noting this from local coverage.  My job as a contractor is intact and guaranteed at least through next Fall.  I choose my own food from supermarkets.

I'll give the lady credit! She stood up for what she thought was right.  The judge was the one that erred.

Talk about a PR nightmare!

I hope the judge gets tossed to the curb.

He's an Obama judge.  Others have posted his credentials, which are stellar. Other than the judicial activism from the bench.

How many have touched what’s in the box, and how many have touched the box?

Keep in mind they were letting criminals out to keep them from getting the virus.

There’s no excuse for what this judge did.
