I'm drawing this line now:

WHEN Trump is evicted, I do not want to hear, will not listen to and guarantee I will get in anyone's face who DARES utter "we must look forward, not backward" to justify giving him a pass for his criminal malfeasance.

Donald Trump must die penniless in prison.

10. Penniless, in prison and also...

...forgotten by all except for those inmates who sodomize him daily.

As usual, Donald Trump is an idiot and an ass hat.

could indict him.

14. Yes to indict, impoverish, imprison. But I'd like to see him homeless on the streets for his last

year of life.

Put him in a poor area of Queens with an ankle monitor, like Mel Brooks in 'Life Stinks', for the last year of his life, to panhandle.

No federal interference. They've got stuff on DOLTUS but are probably holding back due to the difficulties of indicting & trying a sitting POTUS.
At least I hope so!

64. The problem is, they HAVE had it for years, but have opted to do nothing about it.

Why should this time will be any different?

OUR NEW 2021 Justice Department (sans Barr) will have to delve deeply into these issues. No limits of scope, no parties off limits. We have to ignore the howls of outrage for WASTING all this time looking back, when we have such a HUGE MESS to clean up. LET IT GO, they will scream....

Until all these constitutional outrages have been addressed (yes, there may even have to be a convention, which, right off the bat EVERYONE says will NEVER happen), we can expect to see them yet again and again. Under a republican regime, within two election cycles. 'Cause that's just how we roll....

Because we are now an entire nation with severe attention deficit disorder, easily distracted by the latest shiny object, toy, time wasting electronic platform, while selfishly following, liking/not-liking, trending and "sharing" completely shallow, empty shells of anyone with a gimmick (hoping to eventually get OUR 15 minutes!), while being whipped into a frenzy by haters, trolls and bots.

But that is ok (we say) because there are SOME posts on those platforms that are good, healthy, uplifting, inspiring...

But to GET to THOSE, look at all the mind-numbing, hate filled and time consuming SHIT you have to wade through... And we are back to:

STILL being an entire nation with severe A.D.D., easily attracted by the latest shiny object, EXPENSIVE toy, time wasting electronic platform, while selfishly follow/like/not/trend/share shallow shells of anyone with a gimmick, while EAGERLY AND WILLINGLY being whipped into a frenzy by haters, trolls and bots.

It is a lose/lose situation.

Meanwhile, the real villains get off scot free, or a slap on the wrist at most, and continue the same old same old, because they know there is no real cost to pay.

New York won't save us because they haven't saved us in the past, when they could have. I used to hold out hope for New York, but Letitia James will generate a few headlines, then at most a wrist slap...

Because we are STILL an entire nation with a complete inability to focus, easily attracted by the latest SUPER shiny object, techiest of expensive toys, EVEN MORE CLEVER time wasting electronic platforms, while selfishly following, liking/not-liking, trending and "sharing" completely shallow, empty shells of anyone with a gimmick, while being whipped into a frenzy by haters, trolls and bots and RE-TWEETING them to EVERYONE on your list of shallow friends.

In other words, the people don't care enough to stay focused enough to save our sorry asses. Because EVERYONE says it will NEVER happen. Thus, it doesn't.

Sad. Bigly.

All of this to say, technology can save us, technology can destroy us, or technology can create state citizens who are entertained just enough to willingly allow an absolute corporatocracy to turn the masses into comfortable slaves, while the corporate elites receive ALL the benefits.

We'll be able to see it from afar, but won't be uncomfortable enough to demand it for ourselves. We will be the ultimate "go alongs to get alongs". Which is EXACTLY what they are trying to achieve.

23. I think this crisis, and his criminally inept response to it, underscores his need to not leave

office. H's always known that, if/when he leaves office, that a democratic DOJ will bury him. I've always heard that the Chinese word for crisis and opportunity is the same. This crisis is taylor made for an unethical conman in, what has become, a bizarre world. I don't think he'll leave office, election or not.

If he does leave, the question of prosecution by democrats is questionable. If Bush could lie his way into a war that killed so many Iraqis and Americans and initiate and run a torture program without consequence, I have no doubt elected democrats, who have never been as cutthroat as republicans, will make strong statements and than talk about the need for healing, and let the cat grabber walk.

31. 100% in agreement.

Not punishing these criminals for the past 50 years has gotten us into this situation. They know they can get away with it, because they've always been allowed to do so.

It is time for that to stop.

 :???: What? Since 1970?

Star Member Hoyt (42,634 posts)

35. First, no jury will convict him for crimes in office. Second, once he's gone, it would not be a

good precedent to go after him (or any other Prez).

That's really banana republic stuff. But, if there is anyone who deserves an exception, it's trump.

Quote
Atticus (7,601 posts)

46. If you are truly interested in "precedent", I give you Nixon ( we "looked forward") who led to Bush

(we "looked forward" ) who led to Trump. The word is out: "IOKIYAR---because Democrats equate excusing criminal conduct in office with being 'the adults in the room'."

Republicans with the moral fiber of Scott and Cruz are already eyeing the 2024 race.

Quote
Star Member JHB (29,063 posts)

61. It's a worse precedent if a president commits criminal acts...

...yet is never, ever criminally liable for them. Including, apparently, acts committed before the presidency.

Any Democrat who opposes investigating and prosecuting these crimes and criminals should be primaries or otherwise removed from office.

Ok, name the crimes he must be imprisoned for and defeating his opponent in 2016 is not a crime.

You Dummies are children.

He's in his dotage, his fifth or sixth childhood.

Atticus is an ancient attorney who back in the days of Franklin Roosevelt might've been a judge.

He's pretty old.

They dream and pray that all who disagree with them to be punished. Should the fringe left ever get power, do you not think they will institute a bloody Stalinist purge? They cannot coexist with people who disagree with them.
