There will be MASSIVE lying about "Cause of Death" in red states. Gotta keep those #s down!
The only way to really get a picture of what's actually happening will be to use data from past years to show the number of deaths in any locality during a specific time period, and then compare those numbers to the current number of deaths occurring in the same place in the same time frame.
I guarantee that the cause of death on thousands of certificates will be "unknown" or "influenza" or "Obstruction of Air Passageway" or whatever else they can come up with to NOT have to write "COVID-19" on it.

But when things subside - and they will at some point - if Dems are in control of House and Senate, DAMN well be better be a full accounting and reckoning for ANYONE who tried to cover up this fiasco. No, "Let's focus on moving ahead, not looking back" shit. Even one American death is one too many becaus of willful negligance.

9. You think too little of the professionals in red states.
The government is populated by horses' asses. The medical community is going to do its thing regardless of what the elected bloviators say. We have great professionalism at the hospitals and clinics, by and large, as far as the measures they're taking. They're not going to mince words as people start dying.
Also, local governments are stepping up like mad. I'm 45 minutes outside of a major city, and 20 minutes out of the last formerly-rural bedroom community for that city. The mayor of said community just did a 30 minute unscripted live stream, giving real numbers, science, and discussing the real state of things in the area. There's no sugar coating going on. If only Dump and company could measure up to the leadership being shown by one small-town Repug (ick) mayor who is working like hell to keep up, keep up the community, and act responsibly.

Well now, i believe this is something that been done all the time, for a long time now.
One place where I used to work had a subscription to the weekly Morbidity & Motality Report, used by those in the statistics and medical professions and which cost a pile of money every year, and I read it avidly.

There will be two orders of magnitude fewer deaths in those evil red states. Due to better management and more rural areas. OTOH the blue states are going to be hit hard.
