9-year-old Boy Told He's Too Good To Pitch

(AP) Nine-year-old Jericho Scott is a good baseball player _ too good, it turns out.

The right-hander has a fastball that tops out at about 40 mph. He throws so hard that the Youth Baseball League of New Haven told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more. When Jericho took the mound anyway last week, the opposing team forfeited the game, packed its gear and left, his coach said.

Officials for the three-year-old league, which has eight teams and about 100 players, said they will disband Jericho's team, redistributing its players among other squads, and offered to refund $50 sign-up fees to anyone who asks for it. They say Jericho's coach, Wilfred Vidro, has resigned.

But Vidro says he didn't quit and the team refuses to disband. Players and parents held a protest at the league's field on Saturday urging the league to let Jericho pitch.

"He's never hurt any one," Vidro said. "He's on target all the time. How can you punish a kid for being too good?"

The story hints at some "behind the scenes" politics going on.

Didn't read the whole story, just what is posted.  This is wrong.  Sounds like a lot of that liberal whining about everyone needing to be equal and no one should have to lose.

I'm sure a lot of the kids learned a good lesson when their coach told them to pack their bags and go home because they weren't going to play if Jericho was going to pitch ....   :whatever:

Liberals need to learn that some people are more gifted in certain areas of their life and that is that.

Boortz's take:

THE WUSSIFICATION OF AMERICA

I'm told that we got an email deluge about this one over the last 24 hours.

There is a little boy in New Haven, Connecticut by the name of Jericho Scott. Jericho plays little league baseball where he is a pitcher. In fact, Jericho is such a good pitcher that that league officials demanded that he no longer pitch because his pitching is "so hard, fast and accurate that it might frighten or discourage other players."

In other words ... Jericho is just too good.

The coach of Jericho's team, Wilfred Vidro, refused to replace Jericho as the pitcher and so the league canceled their next game. The team is 8-0 and ready to go to the playoffs. Peter Noble, who represents the Spanish for Youth Baseball League of New Haven says "The spirit of the league was community, family, well being, nurturing. It's an extended family and it's been disrupted," because of Jericho's pitching. Noble said that they canceled the game because they were afraid that adults fighting about Jericho's pitching would create an "unhealthy environment."

So there you have it. The kid is better than his peers so the answer is to shut him down. Not encourage him to succeed but to make sure that he doesn't make the other children feel bad.

The new America ... where failure is rewarded and excellence is punished. Not just a trite slaying. Neal Boortz (http://boortz.com/nuze/index.html)

Simple.  Become a brainless liberal who thinks everyone should be equal in ability and no one should ever have any advantage over someone else.

There's a movie coming out about the mentality behind this b.s..  It's called "2081" and it looks like it will be excellent.  View the trailer here:

Just put some weights on the kid's pitching arm and everything will be fine.

What damn motivation is there to work and strive to get better when everyone is forced to be equal?  ::)

Down here in the south, it's DIXIE YOUTH baseball. And the 9 to 10 year olds pitch 40 to 45 mph from 47' away. All I can say is, yankee liberals are pussies, from the cradle to the grave.

I was wondering about the 40mph.  Didn't seem all that fast but accurate is another matter.

I hope the kid gets a major leauge contract when hes old enough. Then he can sit back and do his job for who knows how much while the little crybabies on the other teams can sit at home and watch it on TV.

40 to 45 is about average. My son pitched and he was a little slow, 40 mph was about his top speed but 90% of what he threw was strikes. They never put him to pitch unless the bases were loaded and we were ahead by maybe 1 run. They sure seemed to leave the wild pitcher in to long and then dump it all on my son. We had one kid 2 years ago that side armed the ball at 60+ which was good on his good days but when he went wild, it was katey barred the door. The 60+ plus played third when he wasn't pitching. Several times he fieled the ball, tagged third and flatlined the ball to first for a double play. His dad pushed him hard and by the time he turned eleven, he had permanent damage to his elbow.

I didn't get to play any organized baseball when I was young. So I don't know much about the game and the physics envolved. I did know enough to teach my son to pitch overhand to save his elbow. If you come over the head right, all you need to work on is release time, the ball will always be right down the middle.

Gimme a break! If he's too good to pitch, than just the way he is. They will just have to put up with it. Besides he can be an asset to that team. This whole PC and self-esteem movement is what will be America's downfall.

Yeah, what animal would make those poor, poor, pitiful kids have to work harder to succeed at their sport? :sarcasm:

I would REALLY like to see what DU says about this. They can't bash the decision as their entire mindset ENCOURAGES this type of behavior.
