CARDIFF, Wales (AP) - Even at 50, the queen of pop just can't stop courting controversy.

As Madonna kicked off her international "Sticky and Sweet" tour Saturday night, she took a none-too subtle swipe at the presumptive Republican nominee for U.S. president.

Amid a four-act show at Cardiff's packed Millennium Stadium, a video interlude carried images of destruction, global warming, Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, Zimbabwe's authoritarian President Robert Mugabe - and U.S. Senator John McCain. Another sequence, shown later, pictured slain Beatle John Lennon, followed by climate activist Al Gore, Mahatma Gandhi and finally McCain's Democratic rival Barack Obama. :whatever:

The rest of the show had the usual Madonna fixtures: sequins, fishnets, and bondage-style outfits drawn from the 3,500 items of clothing reportedly whipped together by 36 designers specifically for the tour. Dancers sauntered across stage in top hats and tail coats, and Madonna tried her hand at break-dancing and pole-dancing.

Granted, lots of makeup, but nothing you don't see on other women that age to keep the wrinkles at bay. Women are vain creatures, partially supported in that venture by men's image of them and these two are in the public eye so probably have even more motivation in a youthful culture to try and maintain a youthful look. That said, Madonna has very little body fat anymore and she's at an age where having that low of a body fat makes her appear haggard everywhere since she has no youthful infusion of fat anymore. She probably does need to put on about 15 or 20 lbs to take out that haggard, veiny look to her body and get back a more feminine line, but I think what she's doing is probably more about strength as she ages then looking a certain way and it's taken to an extreme like almost anything else she does.

As for the rest, I could really give a care about either her sex life or her opinion of the presidential candidates. She's no great thinker and her growth as an individual is stunted by her success and being shielded from real life for a very long time. She matters on that front about as much as any other singer or actor out there, even the ones I might agree with(as few as they are) on politics.

On a personal note if I disregarded or shunned every artist who disagreed with how I think I wouldn't see movies or listen to music since the type of music I listen to is heavily inundated with libs. I just enjoy the music and make sure to keep(and remind others to keep) musicians opinions in perspective and not give them any creedence just because of their popular place in the arts :cheersmate:.

You know, that's part of what's wrong with America, there are few to no grandmothers anymore. I was lucky, my grandmothers looked like grandmothers, they aged with grace. Kids need a grandmother, not some painted up bar-fly, teeny-bopper wanna bee.

I guess that's why I like Barbara Bush so much, she didn't seem to let being the presidents wife go to her head. She was sort of plain and gray and the MSM used to give her hell for that. She always gave me the impression that being a grandmother was much more important to her than being first lady.

She will never be refined or classy but she can at least cover up her nasty vieny parts. The only people who find her relevant are those who are stuck in the 80s, gay men, and Europeans. In fact 99% of the crowd of her concerts are those people. Every single thing about her is fake. I don't understand the attention she gets.

We're apparently just going to have to agree to disagree on this particular subject - perfectly acceptable to my way of thinking. Madonna was the hose-beast that chased me over to the country music side of the dial when I was a snot-nosed, pimply-faced teenager in the '80s, 'cause I thought she was a friggin' self promoting whore even back then. Nothing necessarily wrong with that, it just turns ME off, that's all. (And after all, we all know it's all about ME; ME ME ME ME ME). :cheersmate:

Personally, I stopped listening to Madonna a long time ago. I can remember when "Like a Virgin" came out and when she was all over MTV. I think being a Madonna fan was a requirement in high school. But, I grew up and so did my musical tastes. I won't change the dial if they play one of her songs and I do still like to listen to the first few CD's she made. But her stunts and politics have been, and always will be, transparent. She's as boring as the latest crop of DUmmies.
