How Trump could lose by 5 million votes and still win in 2020
I won't bore you with the article... bottom line: Electoral College...

1. The answer is to move new tech jobs out of blue states and into small, red ones.
There have been alarming articles lately that in some number of years, the population will be mostly clustered in 25 cities. I don't think this is a good thing, actually, and the electoral college imbalance and disproportionate representation is one of the many consequences of doing this.
Places like Wyoming, Montana, and North Dakota (all of which have some nice, liveable college towns and some spectacular natural beauty) could all use a population boost.
Of course, it would be nice if the tech companies didn't have such demand lists for locating in a place - those states need a tax base and to retain their affordable cost of living - so I don't see this happening, but it sure would solve a lot of problems.
Move to red states. ruin that state, move on... parasite strategy.

3. I think the answer is to have states pledge their EC votes to the winner of the state popular vote.
That eliminates gerrymandering. Yes I know it also gives less power to rural areas, but hey, they are rural for a reason, because no one wants to live there.
It has never been fair to have 2 million people who live in a city have their representation decided by 100,000 people who live in 10 neighboring districts that have reps based on arbitrary lines.
That effectively destroys the EC, which was put in place to stop you idiots from doing exactly what you want to do!

8. We will need a 12% lead just to counteract the cheating that Russia and GOP will continue to do (it is their MO) as well as the stupidity/cult factor.

10. No Doubt
The Electoral College is ridiculous, a relic from the Civil War.....you can get millions more votes and lose??
We have paid dearly because of this, it has brought about the unnecessary Iraq War and the ridiculous Orange Crook we have now.
We don’t do this in State elections. Here in Ohio the bulk of the people are in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and a couple other big Cities/Counties. One person one vote though is the deal.
The American Presidential Election is the only one I know of where you can win but then lose because of this scam. Enough.
:thatsright: The original method of electing the President and Vice President proved unworkable, and was replaced by the 12th Amendment, ratified in 1804. The Electoral College polarized Americans from its inception. IT WAS Created by the framers of the Constitution during the 1787 Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia.

16. The Electorial College was intended to prevent the people from putting someone like Trump in office.
The electors voted for party over country.

Simple, the D candidate just has to ignore how a President is elected, the same way Hillary did.

NBC is being irresponsible. All these articles do is trigger the fragile inferiority complexes of liberals and turns them towards violent actions like those of antifa, or they go out and become the new Symbionese Liberation Army.
Hey NBC: Do. Not. Encourage. These. Kooks.

1. How are you going to force that?
2. Many tech workers are conservative. Star Member LisaM probably doesn't know this because she probably does not live or work in Silicon Valley. Which I do.

Ummmmm, that would change nothing in pretty much every state, I believe. CA is unique, perhaps, in awarding electoral votes to the winners within their House district - but that would change nothing. But I think his/her "solution" is what most (almost all?) states already do. How provincial of Caliman73.

No, Part 1: The Electoral College was designed to hinder candidates from winning by focusing on a few populous states and thus represent only those states' interests.
No, Part 2: The Electors are pledged to the candidate for whom the majority in their state voted.

Wasn’t there another president who didn’t win with a plurality of votes and was (s)elected by the EC?
Oh yeah ... wasn’t it Bill Clinton?

Clinton had just a plurality of votes in both 1992 and 1996. He did come close to 50% of the popular vote in 1996. Woodrow Wilson also received a plurality of the vote, and probably would have lost had the R vote not been split between TR and Taft. Similarly, it is possible that GHWB would have been reelected in 1992 had Ross Perot not split the R vote.

Hillary darned well knows how the EC works. It was her arrogance in thinking that she had certain states locked up (like MI and WI) that cost her.
