Well, I had to make an emergency trip to Atlanta, because I was missing something VERY important in regards to finalizing the job offer. My social security card. :bawl: My mom always felt that the card was safer at the house than at school. SOOOO, realizing I needed it, well, off to the gas station for fuel, and off to Atlanta I went.

I keep my SS card in my wallet. Probably not a good idea, but if I leave it lying around, I'd probably lose it.

We have a special hidden file at the house where we keep all the important paperwork, including SS cards. I would have grabbed my birth certificate, but I found the card first. I was in a hurry. Atlanta and Macon traffic can be horrible.

Have you christened your car yet? I waited a couple of months.
I think I burned a hole in the seat last week.

I dunno.
I feel the same way about those proof-of-insurance cards one's required to have in Nebraska.
I get a new set of two of them every six months.
One is supposed to keep one in the vehicle, and one in one's wallet.
I get them, toss them on the dining-room table, figuring I'll do it later.
But I never get around to it.
And so those rare times I'm stopped (for non-penalty things; I've never had a traffic ticket in my life) and asked to show my proof-of-insurance card, oops, it's a year and a half or somesuch outdated.
And so the policeman gives me a postcard, after which I show the current card to the county sheriff, and the county sheriff then signs and mails the postcard.
It's not a big deal, really, but I wish I could remember to replace the cards when a new one comes.
I think it's because the less one uses something, the less important he thinks it is.

I keep my insurance card with my registration.
I got a ticket last month. My first traffic ticket since 1996. I was not happy, but I had my insurance card to show the revenue police officer that pulled me over.
-
When my registration and insurance are fixed, I'll do the same with keeping the cards together. Insurance messed up in recording the VIN (got ONE letter wrong... was supposed to be "v" not "z" ) so I am waiting for that to be fixed.

PS: Anyone who makes a christening joke about this car, deserves a :asssmack:

I've never had a traffic ticket in my life either. I've been pulled over twice since I began driving legally in 1970.
In Texas, one must show proof of insurance to pay the yearly automobile taxes (called "registration"), and one must show proof when having the mandatory yearly inspection. This motivates me to keep up with the current cards.

:whatever: No...

yuck! Drives like that are bad enough when they are planned, but when they are sprung on you, it's even worse!

Yep... I tried to call a family member to overnight it to me, but they wouldn't answer the phone. :(
I'm just glad I have a new car that can handle the long drives like that, unlike the previous vehicle (which struggled to reach 60 mph on the interstate in it's final days).

This is why I like living where I do. You can get anywhere in this state in four hours or less.

Quit bragging over there! :hammer:
I cannot WAIT to leave this state... it may be a red state, but it is much too complicated to navigate, even WITH a GPS. :banghead:

Aw, come on, people! ROAD TRIP!!! What's not to love about that?

LOL, if it weren't for what I had to do, it might have been fun. If I take a road trip, it needs to involve a fun destination, and at least 2 other folks traveling with me.

Well, one or more people does make it more fun, but who needs a destination? Just drive and go where you whim takes you. It's just you, the car, some tunes and the road!
It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down
I had the radio on, I was drivin'
trees flew by, me and Del were singin' little Runaway
I was flyin'
Yeah runnin' down a dream
that never would come to me
workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads
runnin' down a dream

I DID enjoy being able to use the radio/CD controls on the new car's steering wheel while driving. That way, if I ever have passengers, they will know better than to change the radio station/cd without my permission. :-) Plus, no one was there to hear me sing. :rotf: I guess that makes a road trip alone so much better. LOL

I just spent 9 hours in the car
I got you beat. I drove from Oklahoma City to Des Moines, IA and back yesterday. 16 cool hours in a Jeep Cherokee.

I do have to ask. Was your trip planned? Mine wasn't. :bawl:

Yes, but, the original plan was to pick up the dog, my uncle bought a Catahoula, in Kansas City. The Des Moines leg of the trip was an added bonus.

I keep my Social Security card at home with my passport and birth certificate. Car insurance, I keep it in the console of the car. The only times I've carried it with me was when I was driving a service loaner or rental car.
