Tuna reaches unheard of prices in Honolulu as stocks continue to dwindle and demand increases..
Auction prices are stratospheric...low grade is $5.00 lb and higher grades are at $10 to 15 range...its gone nuts and its only AUG
Fish Monger friend explains his concerns for Mankind....
FOOD IS GOLD...it has come to this...and we can thank Bush and his GOP Masters...
Well, there's a solution for this.
The primitives should rein in their gargantuan decadent appetites, and eat less.
An adult primitive needs only circa 2500 calories a day, and since the overwhelming preponderance of primitives are overweight already, even only 2000 calories a day isn't going to kill them.

Steaks gonna be muchhigher soon...Drought, Corn/grain prices up, and transportation expenses up...hello to High Steak prices..
One wonders how much of this "enhanced consumption" the primitives can be blamed for; to read their cooking forum, one is left with the impression the primitives are more greedy gourmands than decent civilized people.

Commercial fishing boat engines run on DIESEL fuel. ALL the fuel in Hawaii has to be SHIPPED IN as cargo, those big ass tankers run on Diesel too, perhaps high fuel costs get passed on to consumers?

If someone's a gourmand here, it's okay, above my criticism.
But remember, the primitives have to be judged by their own standards.
The primitives allege to be "concerned" about about the plight of the underfed and the starving in the world.

Hawaii typically pays more for everything because of shipping costs... Regular gasoline over there has been off the charts for a long time.. but I had no idea that cows were in short supply.

Well, I can get cans of solid white albacore tuna for around $1 a can. It's a staple of my existence...low fat, high protein, and I can get two meals out of one can.

The market is flooded with BFT right now......................................Come around December/january.................The low grade will be selling for about $3,000/fish, 77" or bigger, so about 300lbs. Some of the fish the same size will go for $10,000, $20,000, $30,000+ with the right fat contact, actual prep of the fish and it's freshness. That fish will be served in Japan in about 24 hours or less................BTW these fish will be coming from coastal NC.
But back to the idjits

and its not just in hawaii. and its not just tuna.
but this problem started long before bush, so put your anger where it belongs. the world fishes. the world overfishes. some countries are even more criminal in this matter (i'm looking at you japan) than the americans.
so hate the problem, hate bush, but direct your anger properly...
Europe is one of the biggest.................actually biggest offender of overfishing the BFT stocks................they told ICAAT to bugger off. The US is looking at bringing a moratorium on BFT to take the burden off of Europe that doesn't give a shit to comply with the treaty.

Since this is about Tuna and Ocean fisheries..................................Bush has done more for the protection of fish stocks than ANYONE prior.

5. cool. i'm with you. but i watch the television, i saw factory ships...
and these were american ships hauling in pollack, in nets the size of football fields. over and over again.
then japanese ships killing whales...
i'm told you cannot even order a red snapper in a resturant anymore. if you do you will get something else.
it just makes me sad...
First...................haddock isn't overfished you dumbass
Second......................you will get an American red Snapper if
A) The resturant is honest
B) The Distibutor is Honest
C) The fisherman was honest..................which A&B should know.

Aquaculture is only one of the solutions...
Sure must know a lot about it if you think it's a solution.................yes almost all.........very small presence here in the states.................but world wide.........I'm not playing that deadly game...........I forget you guys like to stick things in your asses.

Oh yeah..............the reason for the large increase in price near the end of the year.....................................all other fisheries are closed and basically just the US is selling them.

With the catfish we've got swimming in the creek about two miles from where I sit...we don't even need the GBR to eat delicious fish :-)

I haven't purchased any tuna, even in cans is some time. As long as the price of "Tuna Free" Dolphin doesn't go up, I'm happy.

Declining Catches, but we still export a bunch to Japan and the like.
I don't catch them often, mostly because I don't regularly target pelagic species.
