Tense atmosphere at the border as active-duty troops install coils of razor wire
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/us-mexico-border-brownsville-texas-tense-atmosphere-troops-install-coils-of-razor-wire/
BROWNSVILLE, Texas -- As the first active-duty military troops sent to the U.S. border with Mexico installed coils of razor wire on a bridge and a riverbank Friday, a sense of unease spread across Texas' Rio Grande Valley. President Trump's portrayal of a border under siege by drug smugglers and other criminals is at odds with what residents in towns along the 1,954-mile divide with Mexico see in their daily routines, with U.S. border towns consistently ranking among the safest in the country.
U.S. military units in San Antonio and other locations in Texas, California, and Arizona are going through specific training and rules along the border, CBS San Antonio affiliate KENS reports. Joint Base San Antonio - Lackland Air Force Base is one of the primary locations where training is underway.
Some Valley residents question the need for a large military presence and fear it will tarnish the area's image. And some are afraid of violence if and when the caravan of Central American migrants that the troops have been sent to confront reaches the U.S. border.
<snip>
According to an analysis by The Associated Press of FBI statistics, nine U.S. cities along the Mexican border had a violent crime rate of nearly 346 offenses per 100,000 residents in 2017. That's lower than the national rate of almost 383. In Brownsville, it was 257, in McAllen, 144.

2. Agreed
Texas was never high on my list of places to visit, but it has certainly dropped below zero at this point. Perhaps an email to their State Tourism Division stating such might be in order. Losing business is never high on the agenda of any group that is dedicated to increasing business for their constituents.

8. cows, not hotel rooms for birther barbie
How many cows could be given to the refugees for the price of a 6 hour hotel stay by Birther Barbie? Enough for all the children to have fresh milk until they grow up?
$95,000 can do some real good if not squandered on the parasitic uber-rich.
---I don't get this one. since when is a cow $95K? Now we're supposed to give invaders cows?
The brain of a DUer is beyond me...

9. This is about USING manufactured fear to build support
to overset the democratic systems meant to control the president, and as seems all too possible to take further power. Trump would be a pathetic joke if Republicans in congress checked him, but instead they are enabling a man who wants his OWN people to fear and obey him.
Tuesday we'll see how big a stick we've been given to put in their works.

It is weird. Whether now or in their draft-dodging days Progs so inclined always went to or spoke of going to Canada. Never Mexico. Too many brown people in Mexico?

Yeah, right, you never had any plans to leave your tent in San Francisco.

I don’t think Silver Gaia understands Texas very well. It’s probably 400 miles from San Antonio to El Paso. It’s probably 300 miles to the closest border with Mexico. I could look it up, but what’s the point. Our state is rather large.

The shitgibbon thought that was such a brilliant insight that it deserved to be made into an OP of its own.

Texas GDP = ~1.7 trillion. I'm sure we're going to miss your $187.00 spent on Whataburger, Motel 6 and Six Flags :rotf:

That is a cost saving measure to keep the caravan spread in a line so the A10's can make fewer passes. :-)

I hope they have the money in the budget to send down a few of these vehicle mounted active denial systems:

How large is it ???
Here are some little known, very interesting facts about Texas:
Port Arthur to El Paso : 889 miles. Port Arthur to Chicago: 770 miles :orly:
El Paso is closer to California than to Dallas :o
Brownsville to Texline (north of Amarillo): 956 miles. Texline to Canada: 960 miles
Additionally ......
It's estimated that hurricane Harvey dumped 19 TRILLION gallons of rain on the greatèr Houston area. Well, how much rain is that? Let's use Niagra Falls as an example.
160 tons of water flows over Niagara Falls every second. This accounts for 75,750 gallons of water per second over the American and Bridal Veil Falls and 681,750 gallons per second over the Horseshoe Falls.
19 Tril. ÷ 757,500 gals/sec = 25,082,508.25 sec = 418,041.80 min
418,041.80 min = 6,967.36 hrs = 290.31 days = 9.5 months

A few questions to all the DUmmies who have a problem with us securing the Texas border against an imminent threat of invasion by a group who has telegraphed their intentions of storming our borders:
Do you have a front door?
Do you have a lock on your front door?
Do you engage the lock on your front door to keep out people you don't want to enter your house against your wishes?
I await your answer.

Not to mention that all of the troops deployed should give the local economies a nice boost. Compare the spending power of a few thousand troops vs. a dozen DUmmies boycotting.

I know it's already been mentioned, but they should be glad I'm not making the decision because it would be landmines. With very carefully placed signs in Spanish every 25 ft that said landmines.

I would make a tunnel that feeds into an overground pipeline that ends somewhere near Winnipeg.
Or I would hire the migrants to build the wall to keep future migrant caravans out.

We can take the mines from the DMZ in Korea and move them to Texas. then the anti tank barriers and guard towers.
