We need a Constitutional Amendment with wording similar to the Second Amendment (one difference)
"The right of the people to VOTE shall not be infringed."
Sub-clause: if you are a citizen, you can vote. Citizenship means automatic voter registration. Denying a US citizen the right to vote is a felony. TRYING to deny a US citizen the right to vote is a felony. Refusing to accept or count the vote of a US citizen is a felony. Period. No exceptions.
Couch it in flowery patriotic language, so the legislatures of sparsely populated States and the southern states can ratify it and feel good about it. But make it ironclad. No ambiguity. Nothing that could give the right wing majority on the SCOTUS the wiggle room to make exceptions. Once it's in the Constitution, the SC has to uphold it.

5. Also add election day as a national holiday....
Not having it is basically a form of voter suppression.
Oh geezuz. Having to wipe one's own ass must be a form of voter suppression.

6. Either that
Or move it to a Sunday, as they do in Germany.
Agreed that keeping it on a Tuesday is a form of disadvantaging working folks.
Plenty of excuses so lazy people don't have to make any effort to vote.

The 2nd amendment guarantees our right to own a gun, but doesn't mandate it. There are exceptions to gun ownership, one being that felons can't own a gun. A background check and proper identification is required before buying a gun.
Voting is a right afforded to all American citizens, but not a mandate to vote. There are exceptions to who can vote, one being a convicted felon. The dems feel that voter id is voter suppression even if it allows non citizens to vote, or people to vote more than once.
Does DUmmy DFW advocate for voter ID as strongly as the left insists on background checks and proper ID before a gun in purchased? If not, then my right to have my vote count and not nullified by a person who shouldn't be voting is infringed upon.

I didn't read the thread... but I'm guessing there's probably at least 3-4 more "and also's"... because the Govt. can fix anything. :banghead:

16. It could be something like:
“A well educated citizenry being necessary to the function of a democratic republic, the right of the people to vote, shall not be infringed.”
Then people would argue endlessly whether a “well educated citizenry” or “the people” have the right to vote.
Going with Marc's stupid idea could lose us our right to vote.

Citizens already have the right to vote.
Next.

Why does this guy care about Americans voting .. He lives in Germany .. He is like tha annoying Malaise who lives in Jamaica..

Ok, cool. And add on that attempting to nullify even one legitimate vote with an illegal vote, or voting for someone else, or registering to vote fraudulently is a felony that carries a LIFETIME voting ban.
Let's see how long your "majority" lasts when 180 absentee ballots don't get mailed to one address.
-
That is all well and good but now you have to define what it means to "infringe" upon one's right to vote. The right to vote is already tied to citizenship so the amendment would do nothing more than to codify the requirement to prove citizenship. Now to a bigger issue and this is what the OP is trying to address. Can the right to vote be suspended for felons or for other reasons the government may decide is a valid reason? Since the OP is using the Second Amendment as a basis for this new amendment then the answer is yes. The government can take away the right to possess firearms from felons and those deemed mentally ill. I am certain the answer to this is yes.
In short, the new amendment would do nothing to change the status quo so the question the OP now must ask is "why bother?"

That's only true for Republicans. The majority of your progressive base doesn't work and lives on some kind of welfare...so they're available on Tuesdays to vote.
Oh and Marc...you left out this little tidbit about voting in Germany:
Polling places have lists of all eligible voters resident in the neighborhood served by the particular station; the voter's notification card (or photo ID such as an identity card, passport or driving license, if the notification card is not at hand) is checked against these lists before individuals receive a ballot. Voting is not compulsory.

I believe that employers are required to give employees time off to vote.........

Ahem. The 15th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America:
Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation
This was passed in 1869 so the DUmmie is only 149 YEARS too late.
