I wish there was Air America Radio
I miss Air America Radio
I know there is MSNBC but that is TV and many people don't get cable, including me. I used to tune in to AAR every day. It was so great to hear something counter to Rush and Hannity that was on the radio every day. Not only for myself, but for the millions of people out there who are just driving delivery trucks, or their cars and they are looking for something to listen to while they drive, work, ect. Today, those people spilling the dial will get right wing radio, or at best NPR which is not really liberal. I'm not bashing NPR, i love them. but talk radio is 100% right wing and it is having an affect on america. we need real liberal radio to counteract it.
It seems like it would just take a rich sponsor who cares about this country to get something like AAR going again. They could put Keith Olbermann, Al Franken, Young Turks, .... on there and would instantly have millions of listeners. I think it would make money, in today's world, people are hungry for liberal news. I know i am. If there was something I could listen to while at work, it would be on all day. I don't think i'm the only one who would.
I say bring it back! Any rich liberals out there listening?

People are hungry for DUmmie news? What planet do you live on? BTW, i thought being "rich" was bad? Is it only ok when libs are rich?

If it would make money more people than "rich liberals" would be interested in doing it. The fact no one is interested, even liberals, shows that it would be a bad investment.

Yes libs, hop on that train again. :rotf:

:rotf: IKR? If enough American people wanted to listen to Err America, it would be thriving. Err America is defunct because it was not supported by people listening. Which suggests that DU-grade Progs are not very numerous, regardless of how ubiquitous they FEEL they are. :rotfl:

Rooting for a proven failure to succeed this time sounds like such a great plan. :mental:

I forget but wasn't future senator Franklin that stole money from orphans to prop up Err America for a few more months? That is love of country. Willing to steal orphans money to push lefty fascism.

It might have held out a lot longer but for massively overpaying Frankenfool and Queef Uberdork, wasting their bankroll for a handful of magic beans that proved non-viable. Ultimately your Lib icons are as greedy and out for themselves as any robber baron.

The format that seems to work best for Liberals with half a brain is humor. When he joined the Senate, Al Franken forgot this. He tried to be Mister Serious, as if ashamed of his prior occupation as a successful humorist.
Five years ago, I wrote him and told him I'd found his sense of humor in the Lost Luggage Department of Washington National Airport. Many things of true value are lost on the road to Washington.
And it's easy to tell the difference between freedom-loving Liberals like me, and little dictators like the so-called "progressives" (socialists) I share your low opinion of: we have a sense of humor and can laugh at ourselves. The neckbeards cannot.
I'm still considering going on shortwave and doing a fun parody of the Alex Jones format on WWCR. I've spent the past year knocking off the rust and getting up to speed on a comedy site we all know. As long as you're broadcasting, you're legit radio. Doesn't cost a lot. Then link to the internet for your real audience. Bypass the corporations and mainstream media. WWCR-SW Nashville is still Alex's home station. It can be done.

:rotf: & :hi5: ! Having a sense of humor has almost achieved hate-crime status. I wonder if the Smothers Brothers and "The Purple Onion" could survive in SF these days.

Never trust anyone with no sense of humor. That's how to spot the extremists. The psychopaths, on the other hand, have a limited sense of humor, toward their prey, but hate to be laughed at themselves.
I find humor to be a kind of truth test. And I'm enjoying immensely the sudden increase of new members on a site which deserves them, from a site which does not.
Will The Last Discussionist please turn out the lights? I was paying Skinner's electric bill with my clicks. Skinner lost about 15% in revenue that day.

Will, I find having a sense of humor about myself easy. I have a wife and a mirror.
Also, I'm at an age where I can be the DLF ("Dead Last Finisher") in a 10K or half marathon and win in my age group. So I gotta have a sense of humor on that point.

Ad blocker? Skinner's ad line is the funniest part of the site, much more interesting than the Dee-Eye Lefty-INCEL-Righty Alliance. Whenever I'd talk back to them, up would pop, "Injured? Call Diamond and Diamond: The Injury Specialists".

I still have a mirror. Mirrors are also effective when we turn them around and point the business end toward those with no sense of humor.
The last sad remnants of Discussionist are a case in point. All they can do now is agree with themselves that they were right to be rid of us, and blame us for being gone. Five have joined here in the past week. More are coming. Frank and Carl run a good shop. We're all going to have lots of fun.

Kinda like socialism. "It's failed everywhere else but "we" know how to do it right"..

FWIW, Will, I've not hung out at DI or DU. I've looked in on DU occasionally, but that's pretty much it. So what I "know" of folks over there is from re-posts I see here or CU (generally the more extreme DU-members, I think).

Frank and David Allen (founder of DU, absentee landlord of DI) go way back. To the distant past when we all knew we needed each other, before the politics of hate and fear and personal destruction took hold on the national imagination.
While Democratic Underground (DU) dates from 2001, and its mandate as a networking and news aggregation site for persons in accord with U.S. Democratic Party principles, with a single stated goal, "to elect more Democrats" remains the same (a remarkable achievement for such an early message board to have survived 17 years, all warts and quibbles aside), Discussionist (DI) was started by David "Skinner/Naveed" only 4 years ago, both as a sáfety valve for DU, and as an open site for "freewheeling discussion" and "civil discourse" between all comers.
While DU has faced severe challenges (beyond our present scope; will post O.P. in future), DI faced obstacles David appears to have found insurmountable, and being unable to pay full-time staff to police the joint, has turned his back on the ingrates who turned his well-meaning gift to whatever.
I joined in good faith 13 months ago, knowing nothing of this, and jumped in the water to sink or swim. In so doing, I met some fine people, and learned a few things, which in due course led me here.

What's the definition of insanity? (Besides DU that is)
-
Air America? Seriously just look at CNN's ratings and you will see why that radio network failed. If not for Ted Turners own media corporation CNN would be as far a distant memory as that Cindy Lou Who chick.
-
I seem to recall DUmmies not caring about radio - something along the lines of 'Radio is for dinosaurs that will soon be extinct. we are young and modern, and we use the internet for everything. Let the dinosaurs have radio, nobody cares'..
What happened, DUmmies ?

I've been around I'net discussion sites for over 21 years. My first couple, in 1997, focused on naval history and homeschooling (both sites long defunct). My first news/politics discussion site was CapitolHillBlue Reader Rant, starting in 1998 and ending in 2001. CHBRR, at the time, was mostly conservative-libertarian; it's still around, I don't know how many board SW changes later, more or the ideological opposite of what it was, and last I looked in, not very active.
I probably became aware of DU in 2001, checked it out, saw its party-line-only rules, and moved on. Pretending to be something I'm not is not my thing. I joined CC in late 2009, moved on in 2010 to another site for a few years, and came back in 2014, not long before DI was begun. A little info on a FWIW basis, while DU-folk think DU going down on Election Day, 2016 was some kind of conspiracy-thingy, that "other site" I was on, RepublicanOperative.com, was also hacked and brought down two days before Election Day. DU uses it's own RYO forum SW, and RO's absentee owner didn't keep up with security updates for its vBulletin SW; hackers gonna hack.

Well, if you ever look at the code a DUmp page actually generates (I have), a whole shitload of it is dedicated to advertisements. So Will is right about Mr. Allen's non-admitted greed.

True, I always got a chuckle out of the anti-Democrat, GOP, and oddball Third Part ads that would show up there because of all the tripwires they hit in the discussions. I would say 'Triggers' but that has acquired a misleading additional meaning in the last couple of years.

Yeah, the outfits who select ads for sites, ummmmm, aren't very smart. Back when I frequented Pro-Life news sites more frequently I used to see lots of PP ads on PJMedia. I figure it's PP's $$ being wasted, and I'm good with that.
