One of My Students Tried to Sneak A Fox News Quote into His Paper

I wouldn't let him get away with that crap. He was having me take one last look over his essay, paying particular attention to his citations. Oh, I noticed that Fox citation right away. The thing is, he knew he had committed a grave error. When I confronted him, he admitted that it was a poor choice. The other students heard me exclaiming my disgust for Fox and they started telling him how it wasn't a real news source. He said he would find another source.

2. I think you acted very appropriately and I love how the other students responded!

There's only a few primitive responses, but this ^^^ is typical of them.

When one checks out the prof, who doesn't want to be identified, one finds this:

Quote
Teacher is very broad, not specific at all on directions. Unless your excellent in english do not take his class, if you are have any struggle he is not the type of teacher to stay and help you anytime out of class. Worst professor in CCA

Quote
Nothing is clear. Lessons contradict each other. Lectures aren't clear. Doesn't seem to care about the subject or the students.

Ya know, the place he teaches ain't exactly a liberal enclave in CO.
They'll probably be interested in seeing his thoughts on assignments.

Too bad the student didn't simply ask him to refute the information.

I stay away from sources that end in ".com" on my papers out of GP.  It has nothing to do with credibility.

Fox News is just as credible a source as the NYT.  Wanna know why?  Because they have credentialed reporters at the WH, among other locations that maintain news organizations.  That means they are there to get the info from the primary source, up to and including POTUS (the last one too, despite his open animosity towards them. Wanna talk about attacking journalists, lefty? Let me know when DJT gets a NBC reporter named as an unindicted co-conspirator on a crime).

I would agree with you about staying away from tv/newspaper sources.  Peer reviewed papers is the way to go... at least that is what we were told back in the early 80's. Unfortunately now days peer reviewed papers ain't what it used to be.

Of course, this is a journalist that the professor would easily give the thumbs-up for:

GloZell the Obama reporter.
