If McCain picks Lieberman for VP, he is doomed to a defeat of Mondalean proportions.
Bank it.
1. NO NATIONAL REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE can win the White House unless the blahblahblahblahblahblahblah blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblah

4. Yeah
Kinda proud of that one.
McGovernian seemed too cumbersome.
I rather like "Obamaean"; it sounds almost scholarly, in an ancient Mediterraneac way.

8. Really? I think Condi would be a huge boost for him.
The base will forget about her unfortunate racial and gender handicaps, and instead remember 1) She loves the Iraq war, 2) George loves her, and 3) they love George.
The press will go bananas, because they can treat Rice like some perfect amalgam of Barack and Hillary, while assiduously ignoring her lack of qualifications and astonishing incompetence.
Rice as VP will make this a murderous race.
Oh. As if the abortion profiteers haven't already made us a murderous race.

11. No way. Cannot be true. Un-****ing-believable.
He might as well change his name to Osama bin Eaten dem Fetusen al Carter-bin-Clinton-bin-Marx, declare himself a practicing veggesexual, and suspend his campaign to go live in sin with a head of lettuce and three very stiff carrots somewhere in the Castro district.
Seriously. This would be a quasar-stupid call, one that would demonstrate a) how wildly out of touch he his with the base, despite all the ass-kissing he's done since the primaries ended, and 2) how badly he and his people underestimate their need to placate the base, how much they are still needed, how much pull they still have in the party, and how much weight they still can throw...or not throw, to put a finer point on it.

13. They might be that stupid, but the RNC won't let them do it
The RNC would chop off McCain's hand before he pointed it in Lieberman's direction. They are in overdrive trying to convince their rank and file (the ones Obama correctly noted are proud of their ignorance, remember?) that their "maverick" is really one of them. Picking Lieberman, much as it wouldn't make an iota of difference to us, would send them ballistic, and printing up their "2012" bumper stickers already, leaving the name blank for later.
Ain't gonna happen, and they won't do us the favor.
Too bad, eh?

15. Indeed
BUT
...and this may just be me trying to talk myself into believing this scenario, and the Easter Bunny, are part of reality...
BUT
The RNC guys are basically beholden lock-stock-assault-rifle-barrel to the base, having carefully cultivated their support, donations, turnout, etc. The base is what gives the RNC chiefs their power in the party.
BUT
If McCain despises the base and their minions as much as he seems to, this Lieberman hint might be one helluva go-****-yerself signal to both the base and the party hacks.
If McCain wins, I predict a housecleaning within the GOP. Good news: the fundy psychos will be purged. Bad news: they will be replaced by neocon psychos. Either option has "apocalypse" written all over it.
Basically, McCain may pick Lieberman as a get-****ed gesture to the RNC (many of whom were probably part of the Bush 2000 crew that savaged McCain in SC that year), basically with the idea that his bi-partisan gesture will be an accurate enough hail mary to win without the party.
Crazy, I know.
But McCain is a cranky old crotch, and he ****ing hates these people. If he picks Joe, it will be open war in the GOP...which would be a great time for Teddy K. to introduce another immigration reform bill, just to make sure the GOP coalition doesn't just collapse, but actually detonates like a million-gallon bottle of Diet Coke stuffed with two million Mentos. Mmmmm...sticky...
Fill that pipe up and dream on, Billy Boy.

Riddle me this, and Riddle me that.
Most rank and file Democrats don't like immigration reform any more than most rank and file Republicans. So the riddle is this, what happens when Democrats vote for an unpopular bill right before an election?
I predict it would damage the Republican party and rip the Democrat party from one end of their coalition to the other. The Democrats would likely be left with a Hispanic base and nothhing else.

This form the grand prognosticators that Lieberman would lose to the nutroots candidate in 06.

I heard something to the effect yesterday that not only would McCain not pick Lieberman, but he's crossed off any pro-"choice" candidates off of his list (Tom Ridge).
